HINYG8

You never come back from Copperhead Road
Fall camp is just around the corner.

It is almost time for the world to see what has been assembled in Columbus.

My OSU flag is anxious to fly. The team is ready to peek out from behind that curtain. The visions are taking shape.

But I am not seeing picturesque views of the Oval shrouded in a dreamlike mist with sunlight sparkling off the dew.

What I see is loud, brash, and sometimes ugly...

It isn't postcard views...it is the jukebox upstairs at the Out-R-Inn; it is singing Sloopy with the Danger Brothers and again with TBDBITL. It is wondering where all the damn High Street bars went. It is heavy traffic. It is occasionally dirty and uncomfortable; it is always crowded and marked with long lines.

...but then it gives way to the drum major leading the band down the ramp.

Instantly all the force, all the muscle, all the ugly becomes synchronized beauty.

And it is the most beautiful show on earth. The Ohio State University is on the verge of playing football.

You ready?

I am dreaming of walking over the trash on Lane Avenue and standing in beer lines in the fall. I am ready to rest my voice so I can participate in the call and response of OH! and IO! in the echo chamber next to St. John.

I am anxious for the transformation that occurs in all of us as we walk toward the Horseshoe and the members of the Buckeye nation become one living being with a focused and shared will.

Sure, our collective will seemed to have have been ignored at times. Like the moment Krenzel dropped back to pass on fourth and one against Purdue in 2002. Admit it...you thought we were done... but between CK's release and Mikey time...that was us. We steered that Holy Buckeye home. And when we all exhaled then roared our approval as Jenkins calmly flipped the ball to the official I think we nudged the earth into a new orbit (we *ARE* global warming Buckeye fans).

We felt abandoned when Florida hung that hurt on us... but know that the power of our will was just accumulating fuel...new determination... in the face of defeat.

Soon enough the crowd will rise, O! H! I! O! will circle the horseshoe. The players will walk down the tunnel...locking arms....becoming one.

You ready?

It will soon be our mission to bend our collective will and shake the banks of the Olentangy.

We no longer prepare ourselves to steer the ball to Mikey, or to nudge Nuge's kicks between the uprights. Next time it will not be for Hawk, Carp and Schlegal to turn the promise and potential into a painful reality for our opponents. No longer will we be pushing Ginn to catch the corner and disappear faster than Kaiser Sloze, or for Troy to find the open man downfield.

Now we must focus on getting Beanie into the open field. We have to urge Gholston to terrorize anyone behind the line of scrimmage. Time to urge Laurinaitus forward into battle. We need to nudge Malcom Jenkins just a split second faster so he can catch that pass rather than just bat it away.

You ready?

It will be here sooner than you might think..and when it arrives it will be a blur that gains speed and then only pauses to sing Carmen and listen to the Victory Bell before it races off again toward WHO IS NEXT.

It will soon be Ohio State football.

Relish the tradition, celebrate our achievements, and expect excellence...it is almost time.

You ready?

I sure as hell am.

LET?S GO BUCKS!!!!!!!!

Had my hillbilly cousin buy me a hunting license.

I'm now legal to shoot Penguins, varmints(Gophers, Badgers and most especially Wolvariens) Huskies, mountain lions, and wildcats. I don't have a license for it but I'll shoot any Spartan or Boilermaker I come across as well as any alternative lifestyler(not that there is anything wrong with that) who may refer to himself as a Flash or Zip.

I'm ready.
