slot or half back position
There is a lot of discussion about who will be the best Half-back for the Urban offense.
From the 2012 roster, Verlon Reed could be that impact player. His highlight reel from high school was impressive; but it looked like he was being pushed or coached into a more...
Previous Practices
Pre-Urban, the O-Line recruiting for 2012 was negligent. But, for the previous years, I believe there was a purposeful strategy to recruit a small number of bigs, and use the scholarships for the more flexible players.
Playing Adams, Shugarts and Brewster for 80% of the...
Scholarship count
My efforts to quantify the number of scholarships which will be available, seems way out of line with the others numbers. There will be additional players leaving, but how it might be possible to get the 5 to 7 more players that some are suggesting, is difficult to understand.
matcar: "I'm not sure I get the point of this post...."
I was sharing my thoughts in a discussion forum. Like most people who follow OSU recruiting, I am interested the Buckeye's getting the best class of recruits.
I have been doubting that there would be enough attrition for the 23 to 25...
Recruiting numbers
matcar: "1) I don't believe that all players currently on the team will remain so."
With the current situation, not only will there be attrition -- there is no choice. Either 2 more current players have to leave, or 2 verbal'd recruits cannot get scholarships.
Penalty...
Scholarship reductions
The long run is the main concern. If there is not another scholarship given -- 2012 will still be a great recruiting class (as long as there are few defections).
The concern is '13 & '14, if they don't get another blue chip OT to develop for 2-3 years from now. There...
Numbers are a concern
NFBuck:
"2013 and beyond I don't think it's significant at all. I think the days of spending 2 schollies a year on project OL are done. We also typically have given walk-ons a scholarship or two a year, IIRC. Sucks that that may have to go on hold, but if it does, so...
Jwinslow,
Thanks for taking the time, without sarcasm -- you have rationale reason for your opinion, and I appreciate your explanations.
I still believe he has good speed, and will be an all star for the Bucks. And, there may be several positions which he could excel.
jwinslow: Perry is a LEO prospect. he has decent to mediocre speed for a MLB and lacks the speed to play OLB, let alone safety.
As for being a run support safety, those have become extinct in recent years. Both of your safeties have to be able to cover to defend modern offenses
I disagree...
There's nothing wrong with discussion.
Just don't be ridiculous. Spence is not and never will be a safety. Saying something like that makes you lose any credibility.
And you aren't these guys so you really don't have a clue about "what they want or what hey should ask for".
Peace...
I like the topic, I don't want to stop....I ain't hurtin no-one.... My point is the coaches may need to be creative to put the best players on the field.
OSU has grabbed two great DL classes. Each DL scholarship given 2011 and 2012 were good decisions. But, next year there will be 16 or 17...
Dynamic Playmakers
UFM rule is to get the best 6 playmakers the ball with opportunity to make plays. 1) Braxton Miller.... then he will need to find the next 5. I think they will be Carlos Hyde, Verlon Reed, Devin Smith, Philly Brown & Stoneburner.
Rod Smith, Evan Spencer, and Berry (if he...
Best 22
Watched the Baltimore Ravens running out of a 5/2 Defense yesterday. With the wealth of DE's and DT's on the team, and (imo) Williams and Simon being the most valuable - with Hankins and Shazier having to be on the field -- the scheming should be interesting.
The reports are that...
It would make a lot of sense to shift to an NFL/hybrid 5-2-4 formation with Williams and Simon at LB -- with C.Grant, Whiting and S.Klein as backups. The current LBs could move to Athletic DE's. Shazier, Sabino, S.Miller, Pittman, Washington, and Perry could pressure passers, seal the edges...
Best 22
Probable front 4 on DL -- Simon, Hankins, Goebel, Williams. Bellamy & Bennett may actually be better than Goebel, and Michael will eventually be better than Hankins and Simon, but next year, I think the starting front 4 from this year will most likely be the same in 2012.
Likely, front...
Needs, as posted many times, start with at least one Offensive Tackle -- preferably 2-3 good OL.
With the Price and Bell leaving, and Sabino and Klein being Seniors -- I think LB is the other 'most needed.' Unless, Powell, Bogard, Perry, or Washington can play LB.
We have good, relatively...
Counting the column labeled 'Freshman' the linked site notes 32, but if you actually count them, there are 33. So, there are 33 +19+13+1=66 scholarships from current offers going into next year.

My post was edited removing possible early departure name guesses; no disrespect was intended -- I was just suggesting, based on previous posts, who may leave to open more scholarships. A couple Medical losses have been mentioned ; but I have not seen any official confirmation of changes or kids...
