Brent Benedict
Bolles
Position: Offensive tackle.
Offers: Almost 50.
Accolades: Rivals.com's 40th overall player in the country. I've spoken to several coaches over the last few weeks. I usually get between three or four calls a night. Basically every major school has been out to visit our school during spring practice.
I've talked to coach Urban Meyer, coach Mark Richt and coach Pete Carroll from USC on the phone.
It's definitely pretty cool to speak with a coach from a big-time program like that. They each try to sell what their school has to offer. Coach Meyer emphasizes that Florida has won two of the last three national titles. Everyone wants a ring.
I got an offer the other day from Ohio State, which was pretty exciting. As far as other state schools besides UF, I've spoken with Miami coach Randy Shannon about what they have to offer. I still haven't been offered by Florida State. I'm not really sure of the reason. I've spoken with their offensive line coach a bit. I'm not upset. It's a business. I'm sure they have their reasons and if they were to offer me, I wouldn't hold it against them that other schools had offered me first.

Brent Benedict - College Football Recruiting 2010 - ESPN

Benedict is an athletic offensive lineman that gives exceptional effort. He is a lean lineman with the frame to put on more weight even though he already has very good overall size. Shows strength but can put on some more bulk without losing quickness. Comes out of his stance with good pad level and gets into defender immediately. Good with the hands and fights to sustain blocks and works to keep proper leverage. Instinctive player that knows when to chip to next level. Slips to level two fluidly while maintaing balance and body control. Takes proper angles backside to cutoff the inside defender. Hustles to get blocks downfield. Demonstrates ability to knock defender off the line of scrimmage and drive legs after initial contact. Pulls and leads with solid fundamentals and has agility to pick up defenders in the openfield. Long arms and quick hands make him a sound pass protector. Has the athleticism to mirror defenders and sustain block while maintaining positioning on the pass rusher. Has the feet to be an edge pass defender but must be careful to not over extend. Benedict has a huge upside and as he gains strength in both the lower and upper body he should develop into a very effective offensive lineman at the next level. He works hard and gives good effort and concentrates on his footwork and fundamentals of hand placement. He could play either guard or tackle as he matures and sharpens his skills.
Notes

Holding approximately 40 scholarship offers (April 2009, WeAreSC.com)... Moved away from family in Greenville, S.C.... Older brother, Heath Benedict, a Division II All-American offensive tackle and NFL Draft prospect at Newberry, died tragically of an enlarged heart...Also recruited by: USC, Alabama, Clemson, Cincinnati, South Carolina, Rutgers, Michigan State, Maryland, Wake Forest, Duke, Texas A&M, UCLA...

One day, Ohio State will probably beat Georgia for a recruit.

The football programs and coaches are similar (I know some of you hate Richt, but he's not a bad man when you consider there are guys like Kiffin and Saban in the SEC), but it's nice there all year round. Hard to blame them.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that one of his parents was a Penn State alum. I thought they had a better chance at bringing him north than OSU did.

No.

That was like 2007! This is a recruiting site. I have a NLOID to NLOID memory. Plus it was more of a generalization and a congrats to Georgia (Dawg fans do visit this site).

Since I have a short memory, Garrison Smith out of GA would be nice too.

Outside of JT, Stoops and Richt are my favorite coaches. Georgia is a team that is putting all the pieces together to be excellent in the future...that offense is going to be something else and they are getting the defensive guys too. Great pickup for Georgia.
