'10 GA WR Tai-ler Jones (Notre Dame Verbal)

The Irish mods are basically calling BS on the ESPN update. Irish, Buckeyes look to be near the top of his early favorites. Jones's father played for the Irish, btw, so they have a pretty good source to talk to if you catch my drift.

Are you guys in on Denzel McCoy, DT out of Georgia? They're pretty decent friends, so I wondered if you were on his radar too.

Not in on McCoy yet, as far as I know.

If Montana were to commit to Ohio State, then that would undoubtedly help the Buckeyes' chances with Jones. Not a package deal, obviously (I don't know if the kids even know each other), but having the son of an Irish legend recruiting for the Buckeyes would certainly resonate with a fellow ND legacy. This kind of speculation is always fun in the early stages, but there's such a long way to go ... and Jones looks like a top-50 type prospect, to be sure.

scUM offered? What does that bring their total number of offers to? I guess when you go 3-9, you feel a little more pressure to get guys that want to be there that are actually good...

Just to be clear the michigan offer mentioned in the article was not to Jones but to his QB Blake Sims.

College Football Recruiting On the Trail 2009 - ESPN
Another national power, Oklahoma, after Tai-ler Jones

6-0, 165 pound ESPNU 150 Watch List receiver Tai-ler Jones picked up an offer from the Oklahoma Sooners Tuesday, according to Gainesville (Ga.) assistant coach Todd Wofford, ESPN's Brian Stumpf reports.

"Oklahoma just offered and we spoke with Coach (Johnnie) Morton at USC today and they'll be meeting on receiver recruits later today and told us to call back and hopefully they'll have some good news for T.J.," Wofford explained.

Jones caught 81 passes for 979 yards (12.1 average) and 12 touchdowns a year ago, earning 3A all-state honors and has already pulled in 20-plus offers, including Ohio State, Miami, Notre Dame, Alabama and many more.

Jones plans on visiting Miami for the 'Canes' spring game in late March and also will attend the Georgia Nike Camp on April 25th.

Clemson offer makes it 26 for Gainesville WR

By Scott Bernarde | Thursday, February 19, 2009, 12:25 PM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Gainesville receiver Tai-Ler Jones picked up offer No. 26, the 6-foot, 178-pounder junior reported via text Thursday.
Clemson offensive coordinator Billy Napier called Gainesville offensive coordinator Todd Wofford to make the offer Thursday morning.
?They told me they offered me and wanted me to come down for a Junior Day,? Jones said. Clemson?s Junior Day is March 7.
Jones also has offers from Georgia Tech, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ohio State, California, UCLA, Miami, South Carolina, Alabama and Tennessee, among others. Jones has not been offered by UGA and said ?he really doesn?t know why.?
Jones has already attended Junior Days at Ohio State, Notre Dame and Florida State and plans to make it to Alabama?s this weekend.

Gainesville WR Tai-Ler Jones the next ?Sanjay Gupta??
By Scott Bernarde | Saturday, February 21, 2009
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Gainesville High receiver Tai-Ler Jones has nearly 30 early offers to play college football at places like Oklahoma, Ohio State and Notre Dame, where his father Andre played defensive end in the late 1980?s.

That?s also the number he scored on the ACT test, further evidence the junior has plenty to offer off the field, too. He?s an honors student who takes advanced-placement classes and carries a 3.56 grade-point average.

And, the 25 on the ACT? ?That was after taking it the first time and not really studying for it,? he said. ?My coaches told me with a 25 on the ACT there?s no need to take the SAT.?

Jones? academic numbers are as impressive as his receiving numbers (81 receptions, 1,000 yards, 21 TDs), so you wonder what he wants to do if football doesn?t lead to something after college.

?Broadcast Journalism or Pre Med,? was his response.

Gainesville WR Tai-Ler Jones says it?s ?not too late? for UGA

By Michael Carvell | Tuesday, February 24, 2009, 07:04 AM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Gainesville wide receiver Tai-Ler Jones, who is one of the nation?s leaders in early scholarship offers with 27, said it?s ?not too late? for UGA to get involved before he trims down to a dozen schools by the end of the week.
Georgia is one of the few remaining schools that Jones has expressed a high level of interest in but has yet to offer. When Jones told the AJC last week that he was about to narrow his list, several UGA assistants called Gainesville over the following two days. The Bulldogs didn?t offer, but heavily encouraged Jones and two Gainesville teammates, junior quarterback Blake Sims and sophomore linebacker A.J. Johnson, to visit Athens on March 21.
Why hasn?t Georgia offered Jones? It?s a question he?s asked every day by classmates. He grew up a Bulldogs fan, and UGA is located only 40 miles south of Gainesville. Jones said he walks by a picture every day of Georgia athletics director Damon Evans, who is a 1988 graduate of Gainesville High. Jones spoke with Georgia assistant Tony Ball, who coaches wide receivers.
?Coach Ball said that they just finished with the 2009 class, and that they were looking at every wide receiver they felt could play at Georgia,? Jones said. ?He said they narrowed down that list, and we?re now going to stay in touch with the guys they really liked ? and they really liked me.?

Great news that he is deciding early imo. The sooner an OOS guy with tons of offers decides, the better it bodes for us, especially since we got in on Tai-ler early.
