On paper, the Sto-Rox Vikings will likely enter the 2011 season as one of the teams discussed as a top title contender among the WPIAL's Class A programs, along with Clairton, Rochester, Springdale and Avonworth.

Sto-Rox returns a bevy of skill and talent from their 2010 team, and one of the key players, Deaysean Rippy, is one of Class A's top Division-1 prospects in the 2012 class.

Between national recruiting services Scout.com and Rivals.com, Rippy is reported to hold nine verbal offers from Division-1 football programs. The 6'2, 210-pound Rippy has offers from Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio State, Pitt, Syracuse and West Virginia. Surprisingly, Penn State has not yet offered the Sto-Rox senior-to-be.

Rippy was a two-way threat for Sto-Rox during their 7-3 season a year ago. Named to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's West regional Fabulous 22 team, Rippy hauled in 22 passes for 510 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 23.1 yards per catch and more than 50 yards per game.

Defensively, Rippy was part of a Viking unit that notched five shutouts and held eight of 10 opponents to 14 points or less. He posted 70 tackles (35 solo) and eight sacks. In the last two years, Rippy has amassed more than 140 tackles and 15 sacks for Sto-Rox.

Rippy was a 1st-team Big 7 All-conference selection in 2010 and was the conference's Defensive Player of the Year.

While in tornado-ravaged Alabama for a 7-on-7 football tournament, Sto-Rox junior Deaysean Rippy (left) went to Pratt City to help clear debris and hand out supplies. ?It was devastating,? Rippy said. ?Houses were gone. It was like putting a bomb in the middle of the street.?

Sto-Rox junior Deaysean Rippy was in Alabama to play football, but the most vivid memories he'll bring home won't be from the field.

He'll remember crushed houses, debris-filled yards and a new view of mental strength.

"It was devastating," said Rippy, who spent last weekend helping residents of Pratt City recover from Wednesday's tornadoes that tore apart many Alabama neighborhoods. "Houses were gone. It was like putting a bomb in the middle of the street."

A highly recruited linebacker, Rippy was in Birmingham for a seven-on-seven football tournament at Samford University. After Saturday's games, Rippy and others went to Pratt City, one of the city's northern neighborhoods, to help clear debris and hand out supplies.

Rippy was stunned by the destruction.

"It was kind of disturbing," he said. "I'd seen pictures of it. But when you really see it, you're speechless."
Rippy has scholarship offers from some of the nation's top college football programs, including Florida, Ohio State and Alabama, along with Pitt and West Virginia. A 6-foot-2, 200-pound outside linebacker, Rippy hasn't narrowed his list, but Florida has been a favorite of his for awhile.
