2009 Heisman Trophy discussion

StiffArmTrophy claims that the race is Ingrahm's to lose but . . .

2nd place is too close to predict.

For now, the lead held by Mark Ingram is holding steady. But the race between Toby Gerhart and Ndamukong Suh for second-place is a dead heat. Colt McCoy is solidly entrenched in fourth place, and Tim Tebow remains pegged at fifth. Ingram is at 44.2%, Gerhart at 40.6%, Suh at 40.3%, McCoy at 30.9%, and Tebow at 9.7%. We'll make our final projection Friday morning.

Updated projections with 242 ballots tracked, actual votes indicate Suh has more 1st place votes, is second in total points, but the projected total extrapolates with regional adjustments for votes tallied.

StiffArmTrophy.com: projecting the winner of the most outstanding football player trophy since 2002

Ingram 43.8%
Gerhart 40.6%
Suh 39.2%
McCoy 31.0%
Tebow a distant 5th 10.45%

Kind of hard to justify Tebow even getting the invite (the latest numbers project him at 9.7%).

Never underestimate the stupidity or irrationality of Southerners. If there were enough of them Tebow would win it.

From an article in the Jax TU today

Tebow apparently got at least one first-place vote from- surprise - someone who covers Tennessee: Mike Griffith of the Knoxville News-Sentinel.
"Tim Tebow was the best player in college football, carrying the Gators to an undefeated regular season in the toughest conference in the nation," Griffith said in a Scripps Howard story about the service's final poll.

Yeah, Mr. Griffith, nevermind the facts that his stats were mediocre during that undefeated regular season or that he carried his team to an old-fashioned beat down in the SECCG.

Horse shit. The D carried them. When the D tanked(SECCG), the team tanked. Tebow did nothing.

stupidity isnt regional. The issue lies with that ONE guy who voted for Tebow. If anyone from the sec gets the nod, it is Ingram, and THAT is even arguable. the bottom line is that there is nobody with a vote who can honestly say they have seen ALL the candidates enough to be totally objective. It is very very easy to vote for who you see most often, or vote as a "body of work" prerequisite. The Mcoy vote is what bothers me. He did not have a Heisman year and was one second away from throwing away all his awards, but some are voting for him because of his career. If you are going by the best player, i dont see how you leave out the boise st qb. Yes, he plays a crap schedule, but he led them to two consecutive bcs appearances. He should be in there instead of Tebow. Is it fair that tebow had a concussion and didnt really do much for 2 games? No, but it is what it is..he should be left off the ballot. Great body of work, not so great individually THIS year.

Lets be honest - we are all sick of QB's. McCoy didnt do great - but considering that he has consistently put up great numbers 3 consecutive years, that for me is enough for a nomination... As far as the RB's go, if ingram wins, its rigged because Gerhart is clearly the better candidate. I hope to see Gerhart, McCoy, and Suh in the finals. Suh is probably the best candidate, but its a long shot, due to the fact that he is a defensive player - on that same note, he outperforms every other player in his position - case in point, why he recieved the other 5 or so awards... My honest selection would have to go to Gerhart, although I would like to see McCoy get it because he spent 3 years playing very well and trying to get something out of his college career, and has a 50% chance at winning the NC.

As it was mentioned earlier, McCoy over Tebow, Gerhart over Ingram, and Suh stands alone in his craft.

Ingram: 1,542 yards, 15 touchdowns, 3 receiving TDs. He also had an extra game to do this.

Gerhart: 1,736 yards, 26 TDs, 1 passing TD. Playing football for one of the hardest schools, not only to get accepted into, but to maintain a GPA worthy of a scholarship. Rarely did he have a subpar game to where people were questioning his heisman chances.

OK, that ONE guy is a complete fucking idiot and the South just happens to have a higher ratio of people just like him to people who aren't like him than any other region of the country.
