LINCOLN, Neb. –
The Ohio State baseball team suffered a 3-2 defeat to Nebraska Friday night at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park. With the loss, the Buckeyes fall to 18-11, 2-5 in the Big Ten, while the Huskers improve to 17-13, 2-2 in conference play.
“We just have to mentally be ready to play tomorrow,” Ohio State head coach Greg Beals said. “We lost the opener in the Michigan State series and we lost the opener here last year and won that series so it’s just a matter of our guys mentally putting this away and getting ready for tomorrow.”
Both Ohio State starter Greg Greve and Nebraska starter Christian DeLeon cruised through the first four innings until the Buckeyes got on the board in the top of the fifth. With one down, singles by Jacob Bosiokovic and Nick Sergakis put runners on first and second before DeLeon struck out Tim Wetzel swinging for the second out of the inning. However, Troy Kuhn followed with a single through the left side to score Bosiokovic as Ohio State took the 1-0 lead.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State baseball team was edged by Penn State, 5-4, in its series opener Friday evening at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium. With the loss, the Buckeyes fall to 19-15, 2-8 in the Big Ten, while the Nittany Lions improve to 17-14, 5-1 in conference play.
“Tanner Tully did not deserve to lose tonight’s ballgame between the errors we committed and the runs we provided for them,” Ohio State head coach Greg Beals said. “We gave up five infield hits and we have to play better defense. Three errors facilitated their run production and if we force them to earn their runs, we win the game tonight.”
Penn State took the early lead off Tully in the top of the first. Infield singles by Steve Snyder and J.J. White put Nittany Lions on the corners with one down. Greg Guers when blooped a single into center to score Snyder to give Penn State the 1-0 lead.

The Nittany Lions tacked on two more in the top of the second. Zach Ell led off the inning with an infield single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Tyler Kendall before Tully struck out Alex Farkes for the second out of the inning. However, Ell came around to score on a Nick Sergakis throwing error on a ground ball by Snyder. Snyder then tried to steal second and was picked off by Tully but Josh Dezse’s throw sailed into left-center and Snyder came all the way around to score to push the Penn State lead to 3-0.

“This was very important for us after losing seven-straight conference games,” Ohio State head coach Greg Beals said. “We need to get back in good ways and Greve, our senior co-captain, grabbed the bull by the horns and shut them out. It’s just what our ball club needed today.”
Ohio State threatened in the bottom of the first against Penn State starter T.J. Jann. After Jann retired Nick Sergakis on a groundout to start the inning, Ronnie Dawson reached on a bunt single before Jann issued a free pass to Troy Kuhn. Penn State threatened against Ohio State starter Jake Post in the top of the first. James Coates walked to lead off the inning before a double to deep right by Steve Snyder put runners on second and third with nobody out.
