2014 Week 1 B1G FB Open Thread

We also played a mediocre defense. Badgers literally had no one to throw it to. When you have a QB as bad as McEvoy, mixed with a bunch of scrub WRs, its a recipe for disaster.

Basically, I'm saying its silly to compare their respective performances. If McEvoy had our WR corps, I think he would of done MUCH better.
Yes true but playing against LSU would be a challenge for our receivers as well.

And LSU's defense isn't mediocre? Sure Wisconsin's WRs were covered up pretty well but did you SEE the balls McEvoy was throwing? Most weren't even within the same zip code of a Wisconsin player.

The back breaking ICBM arc interceptions late in the game were indeed Bellisarian.

I was thinking of him all through the second half of that game which led me to downing about half a fifth of Makers, going up stairs completely smashed, kicking the old lady and screwing the cat.

Damn you Steve Bellisari, damn you.

The only people comparing him to Joe Bauserman are those too young to remember Steve Bellisari.

Bellisauri was a very pedestrian QB who made awful decisions that cost us games (Outback Bowl anyone?). Bauserman was just bad, like really bad.

Bellisauri was good enough to lead us to above .500 seasons. With Bauserman as QB, I can almost guarantee we would have gone win-less in conference play.

Bellisari had D-1 talent, he just had marbles where most people have brains. Bauserman should have played football at a place like Oberlin, not Ohio State.

There was a very well circulated account of a coach from Tressels staff in 2001 overheard saying "This might be the dumbest QB I have ever seen" during a game.

I choose to believe it.

1. Andersen on BTN last night, "Gordon was cramping up, you can see him pull up on this run..." shows run with Gordon breaking through on start of 40 yard run, steaming toward the goal line and then shortening his stride and being pulled down on the 10.
If he goes ahead and pulls his hamstring he's out for most of the season or running at 3/4er speed for weeks.
2. The Big Ten needs to stop accepting bogus neutral sites when playing teams of LSU/Alabama rep. Facts: Madison to Houston 978 Miles - 17+ hours, Baton Rouge to Houston 250 Miles - 4+ hours. Houston is the second biggest concentration of LSU alums, behind New Orleans. Wisconsin sold out their allotment of 15K tickets, LSU sold 35K, rest sold to people in Texas - all of whom are known to be ardent Wisconsin/Big Ten fans.
3. WTF is wrong with the Big Ten and their relationship with their regional big cities and their Chambers of Commerce? Why must every national spotlight game involving Big Ten teams be played in Texas? Is Jerry the only one who figures out how to make money by promoting his stadium and his state? If the Big Ten wants to be a premier conference then it needs to use its regional power the way the SEC and Texas uses theirs.
4. Most people in the North believe the Civil War is over. Anyone who has spent time in the South knows better.
