2015 Offense Discussion

So now we have the HC AND star RB ripping the play calling... It can't be looking good for the future of Beck, and does Warriner get thrown into the mix too since he also had playcalling duties? Maybe OC and OL coaching duties are too much... But its hard to rip the players making plays if the plays being called for them don't put them in positions to succeed. The most vanilla game plan I've seen since the Bollman days. JT should've been able to air it out a few more times with that depleted secondary. And Zeke should've been fed to wear down that defense...

4-6 San Jose State is up 28-0 on Hawaii, at Hawaii, with 9:45 left in the second quarter, as I type this. Fucking SJSU has scored 28 points in just over 20 minutes...we scored 17 points against Hawaii, at home, in three quarters.

Yeah, as good as an OL coach Warriner is, he needs to go back to more of a supporting role when it comes to coordinating. I doubt he's going to do that though. I imagine he's gone after this year.

You can try to put all the blame on the coach you want. Truth be told, the Buckeyes O-line got their butts handed to them pretty much the entire game. If you can't block, the play is going to fail. The only scores we got were short field give mes. Mean while. Our D was playing their asses off but was getting no help from the O. Hats off to Sparty for owning our O-line almost the entire game.

They got owned because of the predictable play calling! I could see what play would be called constantly, so surely so could the MSU DC! Our O line played great for having to block for the same exact play to each side all game. When the defense knows what play will be run I dont care if you have the greatest O line in NFL history, they'll get blown up! No, the coaches deserve blame!

Beck coached like he was driving hisDad's BMW. Just don't wreck it. If your plan is to win a NC,you have to be bold not a shrinking violet.

Agreed. I posted over in the game thread that it was almost like the coaching staff didn't think MSU--in these conditions and without their starting QB--could score more than 10 points and that sooner or later OSU would break a few long ones on the Sparty D, even with vanilla playcalling. In other words, it's like our coaching staff didn't think we could lose this game, so long as we weren't turning the ball over.

But the wind was blowing in the Shoe damnit and it was under 45 degrees. You cannot expect to complete a pass in those conditions. The Shoe is not used to being windy and a little cold. Has any other OSU team in history had to play in such a tough environment and expect to complete a pass. And it is not like you have a guy back there that completed 67% of his passes and threw for over 3400 yards last year or something. Geez.

I'm not going to delve into great detail. However the Buckeye community at large believed our defense suffered from a dearth of talent during and after the 2013 season.
With Whithers gone, over the course of the 2014 season we found that was not the case.

The fact the receiving corps has taken massive injuries is not lost on me. However we still have a potential 1st rounder in Michael Thomas, a capable set of TE's, Braxton Miller in the slot,
2 Heisman contenders that handle the ball, and 2 potential first round picks on the Oline. Essentially the same group that caught fire over the 2014 campaign and well into the post season save for Devin.

Yet I'm expected to believe the QB play, offensive line, WR's and QB's have all simultaneously experienced a severe regression in their growth as players?

I just don't buy it.
