2017 CFB Bowl Games Open Thread

Other than choosing to believe that, I dont understand. It seems an unsupported opinion, considering the evidence to the contrary.
@bukIpower - to be clear, I'm not saying that the Champion is never the best team. I freely admit that the Champion and the Best team very often are the same team. But, that's not the case in every circumstance. .....

And.. let me just ask you.... isn't Auburn still better than Alabama? Or did what they showed you, not told you, on November 25 evaporate for some reason?

Again, they were HANDED the opportunity 3 times. They for sure earned their victories once they played the games but they were the beneficiary of the subjectivity you speak of.

If they're going to give Alabama that benefit of the doubt they should've given us that benefit in 2015. The defending national champions, the team they deemed a top 4 team all year (and the prior year), with the deepest roster of any team that year, but lost their 2nd to last game of the year was left out.

Now we were given that opportunity in 2016 and at the time we all thought we were worthy but if we aren't kidding ourselves 2016 was a make up for screwing it up in 2015. As you said they're human and this year they had the chance to put us in but with the combination of us making them look dumb the year prior and the 2nd team being Alabama made this an easy decision for them.

We were handed an opportunity last year and didn't capitalize on it, Bama has now done it 3-4 times. I hate Bama and the SEC just as much as anyone else here but I think it's time to admit that Saban may go down as the best coach/recruiter in NCAA football history or at the very least top 3. 10 years, 5 championships and having a pretty good record every year minus his first is an impressive run. I hate to see them win but I won't deny the fact that I admire the consistency of that program and the way they compete every single year.

No one's denying that. It's a great program and Saban's a legend. The only reason I really dislike them is because I lived amongst the Gumps for many years.

That doesn't mean that you should reward Alabama for being Alabama any more than you should reward Ohio State for being Ohio State. OSU getting the same opportunity last year doesn't make it less ridiculous, it makes the committee more suspect.

Serious though, has there ever been a more "fortunate" team then Bama in the last 10 years.

The gifted rematch vs LSU

the title against a clearly overmatched ND team

The gift this year of not having to play in the SEC title game, thus getting more time to rest their beat up roster. A Semifinal match against a underwhelming Clemson team and then having UGA totally crap the bed in the title game.

The worst part about this is that the SEC finally has an underwhelming bowl season, but now we get to here how the "SEC STILL THE BEST CONFERENCE!!!" because 2 SEC teams played in the title game

Though Bama and UGA being good doesn't make the rest of the SEC any less mediocre.

You're forgetting a Colt Mccoy-less Texas.

Well and that's my point. They take advantage of their opportunities and we do not.

Had we competed last year Vs Clemson I think we get the nod over Alabama. We blew our credibility last year and Alabama just enhanced theirs

Meanwhile, the B1G killed it this bowl season (with one noticeable exception) and was excluded from the CFP. Coupled with all of the bashing the conference took for bad bowl seasons in the past it's especially galling.

You don't have to care about what other B1G teams do to be impacted by conference perception. As long as recruits and selection committees are humans making decisions, perception matters. How much depends on the individual.

I mean, we did lose to Iowa, but they won their bowl game, didn't they? Along with (almost) everybody else we played and beat.

AL.com crowing about the massive ratings for last night's game...

Alabama's CFP national-championship win over Georgia earns second-highest TV bowl ratings ever

...ESPN's presentation delivered a massive 16.7 overnight on its Nielsen-rated networks (ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU) as part of its MegaCast production, which marks a 9 percent increase from last season's thrilling ending to Clemson's win over Alabama...

...The Alabama-Georgia matchup ranks second only to the 2015 game between Ohio State and Oregon, which pulled in an 18.8.

I don't know how ratings are calculated but I wonder how many people tuned in when they found out Alabama was losing by two touchdowns.

Re: 2012 what about the Buckeyes that year screams possible National Champion ?!?

Taking into consideration UCF/Cal/UAB/Sparty/Indiana/Purdue/ped/Wisky/ttun. Overachievers to be sure about a team Urban said had a good chance to go 7-5. btw, interesting they played UCF which Ohio State led in total yardage only 411 to 352 as both teams had (3) turnovers. I digress.

And maybe, just maybe much as I hate to say 'bama/Saban get the benefit of the doubt because they deserve the benefit of the doubt!

Yea, call me crazy!

btw, honest question ~ When was the last time a Saban 'bama team was not favored to win a game? And is it even possible for a Saban 'bama team to lose by 31 to 2017 Iowa? Rhetorical. Also, the Buckeyes lost badly at home to no defense Oklahoma who in turn choked against Georgia who in turn choked against Alabama er maybe 'bama was just the better team and have always been the better team for the past (7) years. Again, call me crazy!

And yes, the best team doesn't always win which doesn't mean they weren't the best team. Hey, shit happens! ie 2015 Sparty / 2016 ped / 2017 Iowa.

Yielding back the balance of my time ...

I don't understand trying to make the argument now that Bama didn't deserve to be in. They beat Clemson and UGa whom everyone seems to think belonged. It is like trying to tell Mark May that OSU deserved to be in in 14 after we won it. It is just stupid. Obviously Bama deserved to be there. They were the best team.

I think Oklahoma was the best team, but they fucked it all up.
