Cavs 2010-11 season (official thread)

sorry, what again are the "TPE?"

Traded Player Exception.

It's basically the cap space that Miami used to sign Quitness, traded as an asset to the Cavs in the sign & trade.

From Wikipedia:
Traded Player Exception: If a team trades away a player with a higher salary than the player they acquire in return (we'll call this initial deal "Trade #1"), they receive what is called a Traded Player Exception, also known colloquially as a "Trade Exception". Teams with a trade exception have up to a year in which they can acquire more salary in other trades (Trade #2, #3, etc.) than they send away, as long as the gulf in salaries for Trade #2, #3, etc. are less than or equal to the difference in salary for Trade #1. This exception is particularly useful when teams trade draft picks straight-up for a player; since draft picks have no salary value, often the only way to get salaries to match is to use a trade exception, which allows trades to be made despite unbalanced salaries. It is also useful to compensate teams for losing free agents as they can do a sign and trade of that free agent to acquire a trade exception that can be used later. Note this exception is for single player trades only, though additional cash and draft picks can be part of the trade.

windhorst was on WKNR radio and mentioned that the cavs have a big offer on the table for their TPE...wouldnt go into for whom or what teams, but the activity so far has me a little excited...no where near as excited as i would be the previous 5 years around this time, but still fills a little of the void

Heard that too, but its curious because only Windhorst and one other reporter have really talked about it. That being said I think Windhorst is one of the best beat writers in the NBA.

The Hawks are reportedly considering trading point guard Jeff Teague and swingman Mo Evans for guards Ramon Sessions and Manny Harris.

Teague could end up being the best player in the deal, but Sessions would help the Hawks win right now.
Related: Maurice Evans, Jeff Teague, Manny Harris

i only see the reason for this trade being that scott gets his PG for the future in teague, who has been used sparingly all year and hasnt had over 6 assists in a game...mo evans is a journeyman, and im not sure of his contract situation or why we would even take him on...i have to say i dont like this deal and i would like to see us get more then just teague and evans

more of the same...nothing really new at this point...cavs could make a few small moves here and there and then maybe try to be more active before this years NBA draft...many teams are afraid of a potential lockout and pending CBA to take on heavy contracts

Cavaliers: Trade chatter intensifies as deadline looms (with videos)

Published: Wednesday, February 23, 2011

By Friday, the Cavaliers could have a completely new look.

Of course, there's always the possibility they could stand pat and play the second half of the season with the same 10-46 bunch they used in the first half.

Things are fluid now, one day shy of the Thursday's 3 p.m. trade deadline. The Cavs are talking about a half-dozen deals with numerous teams.

Some of the talk surrounds their $14.5 million trade player exception. That could involve Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace, a player they've discussed on and off for quite some time.

One thing they're talking about is trading veteran swingman Anthony Parker. They'd like Bulls center Omer Asik or Celtics center Semih Erden in return, but have been denied. They are now reportedly asking for a first-round pick for Parker.

Parker, 35, said he's not concerned with the trade chatter.

gerald wallace rumors again

http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/25264/cavaliers-interested-in-gerald-wallace

The Charlotte Bobcats seem intent on moving Gerald Wallace to a new team by the Thursday deadline and have aggressively courted the Mavericks, Rockets, Clippers, Pacers and Cavs. The asking price has been an expiring contract and a protected first-round pick.

So far they've been unable to get a team to bite, though there have been rumblings Wednesday morning that the Cavs may use their $14.5 million trade exception generated in the LeBron James sign-and-trade this summer to land Wallace by the deadline.

im going to assume if there are no trades made that this will be for a "cavs state of the union", aka, please buy season tickets next year because we will be better....and probably the announcement of the buyouts of jamario moon and leon powe's contracts

not much to state, other than "we suck" which is pretty obvious and doesn't need stating

The Los Angeles Clippers and Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed in principle to a trade that would send Baron Davis and the Clippers' 2011 first-round draft pick to Cleveland in exchange for Mo Williams and Jamario Moon, league sources confirmed to ESPN.com.

The deal saves the Clippers considerable money the next two seasons while giving them a younger point guard who made the All-Star team while playing with LeBron James.

great move for the cavs. people don't realize how absolutely terrible mo williams was this year. he checked out on a losing team. he'll show up for about a week in LA before doing the same.

I agree. I like this move a lot for the Cavs. But what about Davis' salary? I'd imagine he's making big money--are the Cavs on the hook for awhile with that?

yep, he makes a lot.

essentially, mo williams had 2 player option years after this one, each for about $9 million. There is no way he is getting that on the open market, so it's pretty safe to assume that he will exercise those options. assuming that, it basically costs the cavs an extra $4 million or so a year to have davis instead of Mo.

it's really a solid move for both teams. LA saves about $5 million a year in salary after this season, or more, if they can talk williams into not exercising his option.

i think this is the type of change of scenery mo needs to maybe end his season on a high note...i talked to a cavs assistant who pretty much confirmed that when mo is hurt, its really mo just being a bitch because hes mentally unstable...so LA could help all of that...i also love this trade, because of most importantly the first round pick, which will hopefully be in the top 7...maybe by an act of god we could actually end up with picks #1 and #2...that would be insane....Davis probably wont even play for the cavs this year, there were talks of him being out for multiple games for the clippers before the trade even happened...im assuming he is very unhappy about this trade, even was quoted as saying he was "stunned"...i can see how someone who grew up in LA, played college ball there, and was now playing back in LA professionally, would be pissed off at being traded to Cleveland in the middle of the winter to be on the worst team in the NBA...Davis could very well be a bigger head case then ricky davis was, or maybe coach scott can change things...who knows...all i know is we traded a bi-polar and jamario moon for a possible hurt headcase and an unprotected future lottery pick....nice job grant!

edit: one thing i was just thinking....if there is a pending lockout and guys like Kyle Irving, Sullinger, Perry Jones do not come out it, then this draft is 10 times weaker...tsteele might have to answer this, but if there is a pending lockout im assuming it probably wouldnt go down until after the draft is over....so hopefully for the cavs if there is a lockout its not till the last minute and college kids decide to come out early

I like the trade! Got rid of Mo, and I agree the guy needed a change of location. I would hope that Cleveland would turn around and trade Baron somewhere else but I doubt it. Also, I do not think Cleveland is done yet. The TPE, Jamison, and Parker are all on the table to be traded by COB today..and hopefully it's toward the teams future.
