1) Scout $ - Roby Switches To Buckeyes

A nice piece giving some insight into what went into the decision to switch his commitment from Vandy. The article includes lots of great quotes from Roby about Ohio State tradition and the relationships that led him to become a Buckeye.

An athlete who could end up on offense or defense. He's more natural at WR for now, raw at DB but the tools are there. Look for him to contribute on special teams first thanks to this speed.

OSU notebook: Cornerback from Georgia commits to Buckeyes
Thursday, January 14, 2010 5:42 AM
By Tim May and Ken Gordon

It was apparent from the start that Ohio State wanted to sign at least two cornerback prospects to its class of 2010, and with the commitment of Bradley Roby yesterday, the Buckeyes are halfway there.

Roby, from Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee, Ga., said he will sign a national letter of intent with OSU on Feb. 3. The 6-foot, 180-pound Roby, also a standout receiver, committed to Vanderbilt last summer but since then backed off when several other major schools came calling.

OSU is in the market for corners because last year's starters Chimdi Chekwa and Devon Torrence will be seniors this coming season. Blue-chippers LaMarcus Joyner of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Josh Shaw of Palmdale, Calif., were the early targets, but Joyner has since committed to Florida State and Shaw to Florida.

The Buckeyes, who did not offer Roby a scholarship until December, also are pursuing corner prospect Christian Bryant of Cleveland Glenville.

Former Vanderbilt commitment Bradley Roby chooses Ohio State

NEWS AND NOTES . . .

With all the Tennessee debris blowing around and coaching searches ongoing at Georgia and Georgia Tech, there has been a lot of other recruiting nuggets getting shoved to the side. So let?s play a little catch-up this morning.

Ohio State has come into the Peach State and plucked away once of her best prospects. Bradley Roby, the No. 12 player in the AJC Top 50, committed to the Buckeyes over Vanderbilt and Auburn on Wednesday. The wide receiver/defensive back had nearly a dozen offers, including Boston College and South Carolina.

?I will be a Buckeye next year, no doubt about it,? Roby told the AJC?s Michael Carvell. ?I visited Ohio State last weekend and it was a no-brainer. I knew it was the place for me.?

Roby had been committed to Vanderbilt since this middle of this past summer until he recently decided to open back up his recruitment. He had received overtures from Georgia in early December but the Bulldogs went quiet on him as they entered into the search for three new defensive coaches.

?[Coach Stacy Searels] said they were going to offer me as soon as they found out who he new defensive coordinator was going to be,? Roby said. ?But then I never heard back from Georgia again.?

So what if Georgia offers now? ?I?m staying with Ohio State,? he said. ?That?s the place for me.?

At Ohio State, Roby will join his former Peachtree Ridge teammate Cameron Heyward, a junior defensive tackle who recently announced he was staying in school. Though Roby earned his reputation as a prospect mainly as a wide receiver, most project him as a cornerback in college. The Buckeyes say they?ll give him a first look on defense but will also consider playing him on offense and/or in the return game.

im thinkin safety or corner, were deep at receiver.

We're deep with young talent at both honestly, but I think Shaw and Joyner opting elsewhere had more to do with him playing CB...we don't have a single DB in this class yet and Bryant will likely play safety imo. Plus Brown just moved to WR (perhaps indefinetly?)...I like Roby returning kicks and starting at corner, but you could as easily see him play WR with his explosiveness.
