CFN's Top 10 OSU Players

BuckBojangles

Jooooooonyer
Ten Best Buckeye Players
1. WR/KR Ted Ginn Jr., Soph.
2. LB A.J. Hawk, Sr.
3. WR Santonio Holmes, Jr.
4. LB Bobby Carpenter, Sr.
5. CB Ashton Youboty, Jr.
6. LB Anthony Schlegel, Sr.
7. C Nick Mangold, Sr.
8. LB Mike D'Andrea, Sr.
9. DT Quinn Pitcock, Jr.
10. QB Troy Smith, Jr.

I basically agree with with top 5 as some of the best, but think that TS should be much higher like 4th, 5th or 6th. Rob Sims deserves some merit, as well as Whitner. Both of those guys should go ahead of D'Andrea and Schlegel in my mind, just because of proven field performance and durability.

Anyway, I'd just like to hear what the rest of you have to say.

1. Ted Ginn Jr
2. AJ Hawk
3. Santonio Holmes
4. Ashton Youboty
5. Bobby Carpenter
6. Nate Salley
7. Troy Smith
8. Donte Whitner
9. Quinn Pitcock
10. Antonio Pittman

i don't agree with d'andrea. while i think he has the talent, he just hasn't had the opportunity to prove it. i think ts is where he should be or slightly lower. it should take more than 1 good game to make you a top 10 player on a team. as ts is still looking for good game #2... i think they were being a little generous putting him where they did.

if i made the list ts would have likely stayed at #10 and salley would have taken d'andrea's place. though i likely would have seriously considered bumping ts for kudla. all in all the list is pretty close.

IMO, we have 6 superstars that can dominate games...
1. AJ Hawk
2. Ted Ginn Jr.
3. Santonio Holmes
4. Ashton Youboty
5. Quinn Pitcock
6. Bobby Carpenter

and a long list of others that are very good. Some may have superstar capability but still need to prove it consistantly.

1. Hawk-put him #1 because of the leadership he brings
2. Ginn- Its not that bad of an insult to be behind Hawk
3. Holmes
4. Yobouty
5. Whitner
6. Carpenter
7. Smith- reason why he's high in my book because if he don't get it done who will?
8. Salley
9. Mangold
10. Pitcock

close were- Pittman, Kudla, and Schlegal. This list is kind of WHO we need to be our top 10

Pitcock is projecting at a sure preseason All Big Ten & there is a lot of buzz about him having potential AA status at the end of the season. Versus scUM and OKST., he was in the backfield in nearly every other play. He was/is a beast.

Mine would be...

1. A.J. Hawk
2. Ted Ginn Jr.
3. Santonio Holmes
4. Ashton Youboty
5. Bobby Carpenter
6. Nick Mangold
7. Troy Smith
8. Quinn Pitcock
9. Nate Salley
10. Whitner/Sims (I'd put Whitner in, but is he even guaranteed to be at the SS spot yet? That 2nd corner slot is still up for grabs. At SS, I put him at 10, if not, I like Sims here.)

Can you say 10 potential NFL players?

1. Ginn-Simply the most explosive and fun to watch.
2. Hawk-I almost feel bad for not puting him first, I love him that much.
3. Carpenter-Our linebackers are our strong point on defense for a reason.
4. Holmes-Another explosive player
5. Kudla-The guy benches over 550...nough said.
6. Salley-Played him in b-ball a couple months ago..awesome all around athlete.
7. Smith-Hey you win "The Game"..your on my list.
8. Youboty-Without a doubt one of the best corners in the Big Ten.
9. Sims-Gotta anchor that o-line with someone.
10. Last but not least I'm going with the rest of the team. It's a team sport and they should all be in the top 10.

1. ted ginn, obviously. i'm still clinging to the hope that we play him both ways, i like everett but that could be a real weakness for us
2. troy smith, the on-the-field leader of the team. during the purdue game, when the safety tried to tackle him near the sideline and he just threw him down, and the whole buckeye sideline erupted....that's the kind of spark he gives. he's just one tough mutherfucker, no other way to put it. he's not as fast as people think, but his accuracy and decision-making are underrated.
3. a.j. hawk, fantastic LB with a great name. diving INT to beat michigan st was spectacular.
4. santonio holmes, he's just a very polished receiver. those 2 TD catches he had in the 2003 michigan game were fantastic.
5. bobby carpenter, he could explode this year.
6. quinn pitcock, i am a big pitcock fan, in order to be a good team you have to be strong in the middle. my favorite osu play last year (other than troy smith killing the purdue safety) was early in the alamo bowl, when he just totally DESTROYED his man to get in the backfield and take down morency.
7. ashton youboty, he played very well against michigan, but i am not totally sold on the guy just yet. i don't think he is the "shut-down" corner that many think he is, but i really hope he proves me wrong.
8. nick mangold, the best lineman on a line that i think will really impress people this year. this should definetely be our best line in the tressel era.

i don't feel like picking a 9 and 10. i feel like pitcock is the most underrated player on the team, in my opinion he should have been the mvp of the alamo bowl, i have that game on TiVo and he just totally dominated his man all night long. oklahoma st never had a chance because the interior of the line was always collapsing on them. and when that happens, you can't do anything. he's one of the most important question marks this year; if he can play the way i think he can, our defense can be sick (although everett still worries me big time).

I too really like Quinn Pitcock. I think he's the most important player on the defense (I know, I know, but I truly think we have enough depth at LB to make up for Hawk to a certain extent). He definitely is one of the top 5 most important on the team and I'd say top 5 best also. He's a mauler in the middle, eating up blocks and still getting penetration. Quinn is going to be one of the main reasons OSU's linebackers will be able to dominate this year.

1. AJ Hawk
2. Ted Ginn Jr.
3. Ashton Youboty
4. San Antonio Holmes (for Coop)
5. Quinn Pitcock
6. Bobby Carpenter
7. Nate Salley
8. Donte Whitner
9. Troy Smith
10. Nick Mangold
