Cleveland Indians Thread of Malaise (2014 Season)

Latest Tribe dumpster dive:

The Indians, meanwhile, have signed left-hander Mike Zagurski to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Zagurski, 31 in January, made seven appearances in the big leagues last season, six with the Pirates and one the Yankees. He posted a 17.05 ERA, allowing 12 earned runs on 11 hits in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out five, walked eight and the opposition hit .393 (11-for-28) against him.
In parts of five seasons in the big leagues with the Phillies, Pirates, Diamondbacks and Yankees, he’s 1-0 with a 7.05 ERA in 89 relief appearances. He’s struck out 75, walked 45 and allowed 85 hits in 75 1/3 innings.

a little chatter over @ Cleveland.com about the possibility of asking Santana to work out at third base in winter league games. I think they would need to have Wilt Chamberlain at first base if Santana was moved to third.

Seems like a wash. Tubs has been underproductive and grossly overpaid. Kinsler's declining offensively. Probably a smart move on their part, payroll-wise.

it depends on who they get to play 3rd base since cabrera will most certainly move to 1st. their infield defense last year was not good, even with baby huey roiding it up at short. so, improving somewhat defensively at 2nd and most certainly at 1st helps if they get anyone that isn't lonnie chisenhall to play 3rd.

Gonna be Nick Castellanos, no? Save $ there, save some $ on baby Huey going to Cardinals (Roids pay!) and throw some $ at Sherzer.

Supposedly he is already, as an insurance policy in case Chis shits the bed. Honestly I would think they would try Raburn there first, but I digress. It appears that means they will not sign a 3rd baseman.

I guess with Johnny P being signed by the Cardinals, Cabrera will probably be back in Cleveland next season. I have thought that if he was going to be traded the Cardinal would be the ones who would be the trading partner. Maybe Cleveland was asking too much for him but never really saw anything confirming such a deal was in place.

Might be a fit for Cabby with the Mets....but they don't seem too interested in spending anything on payroll so that's probably a long shot.
