Columbus Crew SC (2008, 2020, 2023 MLS Champions)

If the Crew can find a way to dump off Tony Tchani, Jermaine Jones would be a fantastic fit in Columbus to play alongside Wil Trapp. First things first though, they desperately need a striker.

Here's a good article talking about where they might be looking for their next potential Designated Player.

The Revs landed Jones after MLS conducted a blind draw, and he signed a designated player contract on Sunday, the team announced.

The Crew is rebranding itself tonight. They've been teasing it for what seems like ever and I'm glad they're finally going to do it. It's going to be streamed live on thecrew.com a little under an hour from now (link to live stream).

Happy with Kamara coming back. His versatility in Berhalter's offense is exciting, if he can find his old KC form. FINALLY we have a true target forward. Hoping we can find another one between now and the start of next season.

Also announced Precourt is financing $100K of improvements to Crew Stadium to make it "authentically Columbus."

I wish it could be a major renovation -- speaking in the millions of dollars -- but that's probably not going to happen (yet). Or I wish they'd build up the area around Crew Stadium (also not likely to happen).

I read the explanation to the adding of the "SC" to the logo. It would work without the "SC". I'd kind of like it more if the "Crew" was centered under "Columbus" (but SC is part of the new team name, so they can't lose it).

Like the logo...looks Bundesliga-like. Def more refined.

Evokes traditional, established European branding without doing something obvious and hamfisted like naming your team "Real Salt Lake". The "SC" is perfect in my IMO - while I generally prefer calling the sport "football" where appropriate, I think the league and its teams need to find ways to assert its North American identity in non-gimmicky ways.

Not only that, with the 3-1 win AT NYRB yesterday, we're now in the 4th position in the east (home game for knock-out round) with a chance to go to #3 (and skipping the knock-out round altogether) with a big win at home against Philly and a falter from Sporting KC vs NYRB.

Even if SKC were to win big against NYRB and secure the #3 position, they would soften NYRB up for our home game in the knock-out round against them, with NYRB limping into the playoffs. Win-win scenario in that game no matter what the result.
