DB Eugene Clifford (official thread)

Does anyone know if the film is from the game against Tyler Lee?

I still think that he has the potential to be a better receiver than safety, but his speed to the ball from the safety position is incredible.

I can't view the film because I am cheap.

...but, I agree 100% with your assesment of Gene's potential at WR...His real talent is his ellusivness. In junior high, Gene was a RB...the bread and butter play was a toss to Gene and let him run around in the backfield for 10 seconds while the entire defense chased him, then he ran away from them for an 80 yard TD...if they were playing touch football, they still wouldn't have gotten him.

More film of Gene.

This is all offense and ST.

I agree, I think you have to get the ball in his hands and let him see what he can do. The way he attacks the ball on jumps balls is something you see out of an experienced college receiver not a high schooler that only caught 6 balls last year.

I too think his most natural position is receiver. I really hate to say this, but another Michigander brought it up over on a U-M board and the more I studied clips of both guys closely, the more I started to see the comparison. Clifford really looks alot like Braylon Edwards when he is playing receiver. I didn't want to hear it at first, but I re-watched all of the clips of him playing receiver and of some video I have of Braylon. The similarities are really uncanny. I heard that tOSU and Michigan are recruiting Clifford as a corner, but I think he should play receiver. I really do think Clifford is the most underrated player on a national level, it just seems as if he's not getting much national attention, and I think he is the #1 player in the state of Ohio. Ben Martin is fine and dandy, but he's still very raw and doesn't dominate on a consistent basis in all three phases of the game the way Eugene does. Martin might have more potential because he's new to football and he's a wonderful jumbo athlete, but Clifford is the better player right now and he can turn a game on it's head in an instant in any phase of the game, wether it be special teams, offense, or defense.

It took me a while, but I have finally gotten some info on Gene...

Gene is still waiting on the Florida schools to offer. (personally, I am really surprised they have taken this long without offering one of the top players in the country who has openly expressed his interest in those schools.) But, as of right now, you can consider Clifford a strong OSU lean. JT was just in Cincinnati to visit with local prospects (RB-Darious Ashley was at the top of the list) and Gene really likes JT....mom is also on board with the love for coach Tressel.

as always, take it for what its worth.

Not too worried about this mad mamma.

Gene is hoping for an offer from Florida, I do believe, though he has interest in all three of the schools from the sunshine state...just don't expect his mother to let him go that far away to school. :)
