DE Noah Spence (Official Thread)

For my money, Noah Spence was the freshman of the game today. It seemed to me that when he was in the game, Miami had to spend a lot of energy accounting for him. Very impressive debut.

Spence, Schutt and Washington all caused disruption along the line. Can't wait to see the development of the Freshmen defensive class.

Liked Meyer's halftime interview "We need to hit this guy, we're going to start rolling through Dlinemen".. Enter Spence and Washington.. More pressure but still not enough.. But yeah, first half we played a lot of our run stuffing type Dlinemen.. despite the fact it seemed evident that Miami wasn't going to do anything but throw it around.. Second half we put some pass rushers in there and the pressure picked up..

Noah had a few other close plays too that he could've gotten sacks as well. If I'm not mistaken he had a hand on the QB when he threw one of his INT's to Howard (the 2nd pick I believe). It was obvious that Miami knew FAST that this kid has a different gear than the rest of them.

I'd love to see a pass rushing line of this...

Spence-Washington-Simon-Williams that'd be an awful lot for teams to deal with.

do you get credit for a sack if the QB commits intentional grounding...

cuz they said spence got a sack...but it was an accepted penalty?

can someone make some sense of this?

Yes. The yardage is marked off from the spot of the illegal forward pass.

There actually is no marking off of yardage; the penalty essentially invalidates the pass, and the sack is recorded as though the pass were never thrown. It's a spot foul, just like pass interference less than 15 yards downfield.

The thing about Spence is that even when he isn't getting sacks, he is being disruptive and is always around the QB. Pretty soon the opposing QB will be getting happy feet when Spence comes in.

Yes, he's extremely physical with his hands too. He looks like Bruce Lee out there at times. I can't imagine how sore you would be going against him for an entire game.
