Devin Gardner (official thread)

Back on the Gardner topic though, maybe some of the Michigan fan's like Germ are optimistic due to the mediocrity of the Big10 QB's after Braxton. Not a lot of legit talent at QB in conference outside of Braxton and then what Taylor Martinez?

Like most positions in the conference there is a large gap between the Buckeye starter and the rest of the conference guys. Not many Michigan starters would sniff the field for the Buckeyes, but it could be my scarlet colored glasses messing with my eyes.

Quick question while I am rambling, would any Michigan player start for the Buckeyes this year?
The first ones that come to mind are Lewan and Ryan. Ross at Lb? Countess?

I'm mildly surprised how much faith in Hoke scUM fans tend to have.

I'm not disagreeing with anything you wrote, I've just always wondered *why* he gets so much leeway from fans. He had a great initial season, record wise, attributable to an improved defense and a charmin soft schedule. Then his team lays an absolute egg last season, [Mark May]ting the bed in nearly every big game. (I'm not saying they were blown out, so maybe I should use a different phrase. I'm saying they didn't step up when it mattered most). Yet, Hoke is still praised like he has led scUM back to the promised land.

Is it his admittedly excellent recruiting? Or is he just that likable? I'd be interested to hear why you like him so much.

This is why I give him some leeway, look at the roster he went 19-7 with. All I hear is how bad Michigan's talent is/was, but you beat us by 5 in C-bus and we ran some funky Hybrid offense and 4 games ago our QB was playing WR. How many players on MI current roster did OSU offer? With the talent he had in A2 at the start he developed it and the last two years and players got better. He does not make any excuses.

We all knew Michigan was in trouble last year, being the O-line and D-Line had issues.

Second he's the first one to say both season were not up to standard he wants at Michigan.

He understand what Michigan Vs Ohio State is all about.

My thoughts exactly. Lewan would be at LT, which would push Mewhort to RT. Ryan would start, probably for Curtis Grant. And Countess might be the 2nd CB across from Roby. The only other player I can think of is Funchess, who would would probably be used as an H-back. Literally, that's it.

He was a DL coach in 97, so he has won a championship, he also won the Mac with Ball State in 2008. Majority of his losses came at Ball State and from what I have read it was in terrible shape.

Tressel ********************************************> than Carr.
Hoke has NEVER won a championship as a head coach. Buffalo was the MAC champ in 2008. Hoke won his division in 2008 and went on to LOSE the championship game to Buffalo in a 42-14 ass-whuppin.

Just like Hoke, Charlie Weis has a bunch of rings that Belichick won for him too.....

Below is a list of QB's who did what DG did the last 5 games of the season. Which is average 14+ points a game for a 5 game streak. mgoblog did a piece on this, it was interesting.

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay (Cal, 2003)
Alex Smith, Kansas City (Utah, 2004)
Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh (Miami (NTM), 2003)
Cam Newton, Carolina (Auburn, 2010)
Colin Kaepernick, San Francisco (Nevada, 2010)
Matthew Stafford, Detroit (Georgia, 2008)
Philip Rivers, San Diego (NC St, 2003)
Robert Griffin, Washington (Baylor, 2011)
Russell Wilson, Seattle (Wisconsin, 2011)
Sam Bradford, St Louis (Oklahoma, 2008)
Tim Tebow

I bet Braxton makes this list 2013, being Meyer's former two QB's made it.

Miller was 12-0 on the only list that matters.

What? As in personal TDs/points he was responsible for?

This is pretty amusing stuff. Did any of them lose to a team that only kicked field goals?

It looks like a pathetic attempt to make someone look good by comparing them to NFL players while ignoring the dozens, if not hundreds, of other college QBs that have averaged throwing 2 TDs or more over a five game stretch.

So doing that against 2012 Big Ten defenses is not the same as doing that against NFL defenses?

Who knew?
