How many drinks would it take a guy his size to blow .08 and up?

About 1/3rd of what Kevin Grady drank when he got busted (also in a nice SUV, IIRC).

On a serious note, I'm wondering if the Dispatch is correct on the charges.

He was released shortly afterward and faces a DUI charge for having a blood-alcohol content between 0.08 and 0.17.

The charge is a first-degree misdemeanor punishable by up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine

That sounds like the bare minimum charge to me. I would think there's a good chance that his being underage might bump it up a level. If a "level 1" DUI for over 21 is .08-.17, and under 21 starts at .02, it makes sense that blowing over .08 would bump it up a notch for the underaged. I could very well be wrong, but I know from friend's dealings that there are 2-3 levels of DUI, based on BAC. If the max sentence stated is accurate, then he should be able to plea down, pay his fines, probably attend some counseling, and be done with it. It's too bad, because I've always heard that he's a great kid.

Side note on the vehicele. He got a full ride, so his parents can get him whatever he wants (within limits). This purchase would not be completley out of line. My cousin was given a BMW for her high school graduation and her parents paid for her college too. These kids work hard in high school and it this case it appears Mom and Dad thought he deserved it. Who am I to argue?

A couple of details from the Bucknuts article. The Cadillac is a 2004, and Worthington will turn 21 on August 10th, so he was about 2 weeks away.

I believe that is just to signify the severity of the charge. A BAC of over 0.17 would different charge, with harsher penalties. That's how it is in Cincy, I think it's state wide.

Just think of the nice car you could buy if you didn't have to pay all those pesky tuition bills.
Exactly.. earning a scholarship = the college fund becoming a gift.

I don't know the answer to this one.. I know since I didn't blow - mine got dropped to a reckless-opp, however as a result of me not blowing my license is automatically gone for 12 months with work privileges.

It may be plead down even with the BAC being above .08 - first time offenders get a good break. He will have to attend drunk camp though most likely..

I drove by this incident as it was happening.. I was coming back from a midnight showing of The Dark Knight. Saw a massive dude standing outside an Escalade. Whenever I see stuff like that, I hope that it's not someone who has something to throw away. It's unfortunate when people who have a lot going for them put themselves in situations that risk the potential that they have.

Didn't Boone have a similar incident as a freshman?

Sounds right. I know he was drinking, I can't recall if he was driving at the time. I believe he admitted that he had a bit of a problem since HS, but has cleaned it up. There have been a few Buckeyes who've had a DUI in the past 10 years, I don't remember anything worse than a 2 game susp. IIRC, one of the backup RBs from 02 was caught drinking in his car on the side of the road. And of course there was S. Bellisari.

Yeah I can recall that Boone said that he had been downing 30-40 beers a day before he got arrested.

:shake: What a dumb mistake. Gotta make better choices, fellas. It's bad enough to drink and drive but to do it and be underage....WOW. Hope this is a major wakeup call for him and everyone on the team. Get your head right guys.

Exactly.

Boys will be boys but they gotta be smarter than this...:shake:
