General Recruiting Discussion and Tangents (Merged)

Over the past five seasons, no top-ranked quarterback has received All-American honors.
Too lazy to go back six seasons to find some guy named Vince Young....

Only Georgia's Matthew Stafford, 2006's top-ranked signal caller, has come close to reaching his potential. In his second season under center, Stafford led the Bulldogs to an 11-2 season highlighted by a Sugar Bowl victory this month.
Yeah, pretty lousy for two whole seasons.... Maybe he'll reach his potential next year. :roll2:

Claussen (2007) started as a true freshman, and Sanchez (2005) stll has two years to run the most talented team in the country - doubt that either of them will have decent careers....

Sounds like a UM reporter engaging in some wishful thinking, knowing that TP won't end up in AA....

Penn State continues to get destroyed on the recruiting trail, with Alexander choosing Pitt last night. Only 1 of their top-11 in PA, OUCH!

'Ol Dave W. looks to have the recruiting machine up and running. Now if he can only translate that to the field......

Penn State only has 12 recruits, but they average a rating of 3.75. That is 5th on Scout, behind USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Oklahoma. They may not be recruiting quantity, but they are getting some level of quality. Ten 4* recruits. I just wonder how many schollies they have opening up. If they are only getting 12 recruits, and they have, say, 25 schollies, there is an issue.

And yeah, Pitt's talent will eventually translate to the field. Wannstache is the next Zooker.

Problem for Penn State is that the chances of nailing down 4* or better recruits from here on out diminish.

They always seemed capable of reeling in one or two blue-chip recruits in the waning days in years gone by. Now, if you look at their sorted interest level chart, that doesn't seem too likely.

As for numbers, the schollie count would figure to be 15+ following King's early departure.

Unless they pull a couple of rabbits out of the hat moving toward NLOID a less than 3.75 rating is a lock. The magic number is likely

Well ignoring the obligatory (stars/rankings don't matter, ie OSU 05) caveat...

PSU has 4 players in the top-10 at their position (4, 5, 9, 9). The other 6 four-star guys are ranked 13, 15, 15, 24, 29, 32. Solid, but not that impressive.
