He was one of only a couple of truly electric guys his freshman year. As a sophomore he became one of many electric guys on the offense. Everyone is fighting for time, but it doesn't take away from how much of an athlete he is or how important he is to the team.

Both of the last 2 posts make good points. I felt bad for Dontre when he came in, because of how much hype he had, unless he scored in every game and made a highlight reel play fans would write him off. He's still über talented, but unfortunately his injury came at a tough time, and his backup, Jalin Marshall had final part of the season to remember. Jalin looks to be the HB starter, Samuel will now get PT there, Campbell is coming off of a redshirt and could get snaps, and then there has to be a way to find time for Wilson. That's a lot of talent at one position

I want De Soto to develop ala Devin Smith. ... Add strength and ball tracking skills to elusiveness, burst and straight line speed and become a deep threat, stretch the field weapon that causes defenses to game plan out of pure fear!

They aren't the same type of reciever. Our straight line recievers are Smith, McLaurin and Campbell. Dontre's agility, size and speed are suited for slot reciever role all the way and he's also 5 inches shorter than Devin.

I don't think I'd put Campbell in that discussion, he's more like Wilson. Smith, McLaurin and Dixon are the deep threat WRs, IMO. Wilson is all H back in the middle. But it'd be nice to see him get versatile enough to try outside at times. But he should be used to exploit mismatches in the defense

Dontre will have a big role for our team moving forward. We of course would like about 3 more footballs on the field at a time to solve this dilemma but Dontre will be big for us next year. Book it.
I hope you're right but I'm not so confident. Dontre reminds me of Mo Wells and how much talk there was about him coming in and then really hasn't done as much. He's got 2 more years to leave his mark but at this point with how much we share the ball on offense I do not see Dontre having the type of impact perhaps we all thought he may. To be honest, there's nothing wrong with that because he will be solid but IMO won't be a big part due to Marshall and especially Samuel stealing reps at H.

Bottom line we don't NEED him to be a big part. He just needs to be dangerous enough to keep eyes on him once in a while so it frees up other guys to make plays as well. Then vice versa with the other guys freeing up Dontre to have time and space.

If he's even dangerous in the return game, that's a big role for this team. I agree with what you're saying about losing reps to Marshall and Samuel, but Urban likes to have all of his playmakers utilized which bodes well for Dontre. Smith likes to rotate in WRs and keep them fresh so it's not like any HB will get all of the reps anyway, they'll definitely be split, and also with Samuel splitting time at RB and HB, that helps Wilson too.
And it wouldn't surprise me to see a WR 4 wide formation with Thomas and Marshall on the outside and Dontre and Samuel on the inside with EzE in the backfield! That's some serious speed

Jalin and Thomas split wide, Dontre and Samuel in the slot, with EzE as the RB. Sounds good to me. And as to the Mo Wells comparison stated, I just don't see it. Dontre might have not hit the completely unrealistic expectations we placed on him but when he has been healthy, he has made some big time plays for us. And a lot of his contributions will not show up on the stat sheet, as the defense keys on him and leaves others open. Now that Jalin, Thomas, and Samuel have emerged, I don't think defenses will be able to do that anymore...so I think Dontre will flourish even more now.
