I stand with Jim Tressel - How Firm Thy Friendship

And, nooo, I'm not equating JT with Uncle Adolph. Merely contending that there is something to be said for prudent self-determination vs. blind, unquestioning loyalty...A hell of a lot to be said for it, in fact.

In my analogy Bobby Knight was Hitler, JT was FDR.

I [censored]in' hate Bobby Knight.

I don't love or hate him. I respect that he led his athletes to a lot of wins and that's something I'd never ever be able to achieve. I cringed at how he went about doing what he did because that's not how I have been taught / learned to lead others. To each his own...

I'm just saying that I believe him. He's not a bull[Mark May]ter. To me, a more apt analogy would be hitler saying FDR was a great leader. Hitler may have been a huge bitch, but he lead the [censored] out of those idiots.

Yep. I agree with what Knight said. I was just saying that I'm not sure he's such a good character reference.

I stand by JT because he is a good man. This is not a good situation and it's too bad he got caught up in it. IMO, he didn't handle it properly and it's coming back to bite him in the ass.

A part of me wonders if he's falling on the sword for Gene Smith (who I'm starting to really dislike), a part of me wonders if the 3-hour conversation at Dr. Gee's was keeping JT from resigning.. who knows.

It's nice to see all 3 of them united at the presser, but it's really too bad the schools name is going to be drug through the mud because a few 18/19 year olds traded autographs for free ink.

Blah.

Fingers crossed that the NCAA dosen't dig up more dirt.

I support Jim Tressel. A fan in good times, and in bad. I won't waffle. I figure, if ya don't like the man, go find another team. No one is twisting your arm, or forcing you to like him. He is human, imperfect. I'd go as far as saying, if there was a dismissal, there'd be universities waiting at his door step to offer him a job. I never stated that he didn't make a mistake, just being supportive.
Don't throw stones if you live in a glass house. We've all made mistakes.

Find another team? So I should just turn my back on my alma mater to whom I've donated thousands of dollars and a hell of a lot more in terms of emotional investment and support. Jim Tressel represents my alma mater (and not too well right now) meaning that I just don't have the simple luxury of changing teams at the drop of a hat (and purchase of a new one).

Yes. Another team. There are plenty of MAC schools that would love to have you. ORD_Bobcat has a nice ring to it.

I can only speak for myself, but I am not an alumni. But, this blue collar factory worker understands what it means to make a mistake, and be given a second chance, and learn from my mistakes. Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers there. Oh, glad your able to be a generous donor. Wish I could. In all sincerity.

Everyone - May I remind you that this thread was intended for support of Jim Tressel as the man we have come to know and respect.

I respectfully request that the debate about this issue and any bashing of each other and certainly of coach Tressel be done elsewhere. There is a thread if you have doubts or whatever about JT now. That's fine. That's not for THIS thread.

Please. Let's keep this civil. We are, after all, BUCKEYES.

I have absolutely no problem saying I still support Tressel and Still want him as a coach for the Buckeyes. I think he was hoping and praying the thing would go away, goofy emails coming from this poor excuse of a trial lawyer (apparently).

I wonder, too, if he wrestled with the question of crime vs no crime. Regardless of what happened to him for not reporting it, selling your rings is not a crime. Jerseys for tattoos is not a crime. But drug use/buying/selling, that's real trouble.

So his reporting the emails makes him the agent for taking it from, potentially, tatto-gate to criminal charges.

I also like to think that, while Bob Davie said that the MAIN reason coaches comply with all of this is to COVER THEIR OWN REAR END ( his words), the last thing JT is worried about is covering his own rear end.

Last comment: I also truly believed the end of his statement - he was glad to find out that no one committed any crimes. That the athletes are all students at Ohio State still, and that they will all graduate from Ohio State.

Go Bucks!
