LB Curtis Grant (National Champion)

That would be a huge pick up for the Bucks. He runs a 4.5 wow, then again he is from Florida. If he comes to OSU we will have the #3, and 4 LB's of the class, can't wait for the 2014 season. With that 4.5 it makes me wonder if they would consider having him at a DB.

ummm NO.

He's a Linebacker.

Yeah, great post. Curtis Grant, who is from Virginia not Florida, is 6' 3" 230 lbs., and if he comes to OSU, maybe we'll switch him to DB. That is simply a brilliant idea. Perhaps we could then switch Connor Crowell to DT. :smash:

If you look at a lot of past recruits they have changed positions. So we will wait to find out.

There's a better chance of OSU offering you a scholarship to play DB than there is of Curtis Grant switching to DB...

This really isn't up for debate when it comes to Grant. He is not a DB nor will be ever be a DB. If you've watched five seconds of his film you'd know that. When a recruit changes positions he normally shifts down...DB to LB...LB to DE...DE to DT. Cie Grant was a rare exception of someone who moved up and I think we all remember how much better of a LB he was than DB.

OSU had another guy move up years ago... from center to defensive back! He not only started at DB for OSU, he was drafted and started at DB in the NFL. I'll see if I can find a picture of him playing center at OSU.

Of course, moves up are so rare they become trivia questions. Grant is a very thick kid who is destined to move down, IMHO. He'd make a great DE.

There are 193 safeties in the NFL, only three of whom weigh 230 pounds or more ... that's just 1.6% ... the heaviest safety in the NFL (Kam Chancellor from the Seattle Seahawks) weighs 232 pounds, while the lightest weighs 187 pounds.

Grant, being just 18 years old and never having been in a college strength and conditioning program, will likely put on 15 to 25 pounds before he graduates ... and it is very unlikely that there will ever be a 250-pound safety in the NFL.

Of the 193 safeties in the NFL, 51 weigh 200 pounds or less (26.4%), and only 21 weigh 220 pounds or more (10.9%).

The average weight of all NFL safeties is 207.2 pounds (in other words, 23 pounds less than Curtis Grant weighs as a high school player).

Here are the weights of some notable NFL safeties:

Troy Polamalu: 207
Ed Reed: 200
T.J. Ward: 200
Donte Whitner: 208
Bob Sanders: 206
Eric Berry: 211
Antrel Rolle: 208
Kurt Coleman: 195
Malcolm Jenkins: 204
Darren Sharper: 210
Nick Collins: 207
Eric Weddle: 200
Quintin Mikell: 203
Chris Harris: 207
Michael Huff: 205
Michael Griffin: 203

No need to find out, because we already know - Grant is a linebacker.

Really? Just because im new to this forum does not mean im new to Ohio State football. Grow up
If you're not new to Ohio State football, then don't act like you know nothing about the game, 'cause right now you've got a lot of us fooled.

My cousin saw him at 31 flavors last night and he said that he's also going to try out for the men's heavy weight crew team too.

While I agree Grant will never move to DB, Jermale Hines did move up from LB to DB. I would say he did a fine job of moving up.

For the right person it is possible to move back but as was said, is very rare. These kids blow up when they get into the strength conditioning at college. Grant will be to big of a playmaker with 4.5 speed at Mike to be moved back. He may have the speed to be a DB, but he has all the tools to be an elite college LB.

Even if the 4.5 is legit, there's more to playing DB than speed. It's about hips and acceleration/recovery speed. Curtis is 6-3/222, he's not gonna play DB mark that down. I'd be surprised if he wasn't playing around 235+ with his frame.

Jermale Hines was a "linebacker" because that's where he played in high school. He was 205 pounds when he entered Ohio State, and he's 216 pounds now. Big difference from Grant who is 230-ish now and will be 250-ish by the time he's done.
