Jermale Hines was a "linebacker" because that's where he played in high school. He was 205 pounds when he entered Ohio State, and he's 216 pounds now. Big difference from Grant who is 230-ish now and will be 250-ish by the time he's done.

No need to convince me, no way do I ever see Grant being in the defensive backfield.

I understand he was a LB in high school but if I remember correctly, Hines was recruited as a LB to tOSU not as a DB. The change was made after he was in the program. I am certainly happy that he did make the change, he was a good playmaker.

Grant, being just 18 years old and never having been in a college strength and conditioning program, will likely put on 15 to 25 pounds before he graduates ... and it is very unlikely that there will ever be a 250-pound safety in the NFL.

Of the 193 safeties in the NFL, 51 weigh 200 pounds or less (26.4%), and only 21 weigh 220 pounds or more (10.9%).

The average weight of all NFL safeties is 207.2 pounds (in other words, 23 pounds less than Curtis Grant weighs as a high school player).

OSU had another guy move up years ago... from center to defensive back! He not only started at DB for OSU, he was drafted and started at DB in the NFL. I'll see if I can find a picture of him playing center at OSU.

Of course, moves up are so rare they become trivia questions. Grant is a very thick kid who is destined to move down, IMHO. He'd make a great DE.

Taylor Mays is the biggest db I can think of.... He has to be 230-235? He is a big dude.

Scary fast for his size as well, 4.4 speed. Freak.

Pound for pound Grant is faster though if the 4.5 is legit. Man I hope he will be a Buckeye! :)

David Fulcher was the biggest safety I remember. He used to play at around 240 and was by far the largest DB in the league at that time.

Terelle Pryor can run a 4.3 40. What are we doing putting him at QB? He's obviously a DB.

Anyone that thinks Curtis is a DB at the next level didn't watch him play in the USAAB. He's a LB in college (likely a Mike) with the potential to be an elite one at the position.

If/when Grant gets to 250 or so, I'd hope his style of play is also physical like a 250lb linebacker's game should be and if it is, then he should be solidly in the middle of the defense.

I'd rather have sideline to sideline speed in a 250lbs linebacker than some sort of token "big" safety at the expense of the defense closer to the LOS

Been gone all day and haven't been able to ckeck the recruiting board once( a real rarity) today, and what of all things to to be the "topic of the day", two pages of discussion about moving Curtis Grant to safety. Signing day is 4+ days away, but I've seen it all now.
