LB Jerome Baker (Seattle Seahawks)

“Florida really fits who I am. It’s not too big or too crazy,” Baker said. “It just really fits me because it’s laid back and you just handle your business and have fun with it there. Florida is different atmosphere and different culture than I’m used to at home.

Our program is defined by the words "toughness" and "competitors". The words "laid back" and "chill" don't exist. #Elite15

I'm assuming this puts an end to any thought of OSU still pursuing Baker.

Laid back and chill; the exact words I'd use for Muschamp on game day....

Joking aside, it's disappointing he didn't pick OSU but it sounds like the kid found somewhere he really felt comfortable enough to spend the next 4-5 years of his life.

After that quote, it's no wonder that UF has been so miserable under Muschamp. Seems like he inherited a lot of his coaching style from Mack Brown. Good luck to Jerome at UF, he'll have a great time chillin' in the laid-back town of Gainesville.

After that quote, I'm no longer disappointed in not getting him. I'm very content with Conner and Hilliard and on to the loaded 2016 class.

Wow, we are reading a lot into one quote by a 17-year old kid. Maybe he was referring to the campus life at UF. Or maybe Jerome thought the town of Gainesville was laid back. That doesn't mean that's what he thinks the football program is under Coach Muschamp or Coach Durkin. If there is anything D.J. Durkin is not it is "laid back" and "chill". How do we even know Patoni was referring to Jerome? You think Pantoni sat around and read a bunch of Jerome's quotes after he picked Florida? I bet not...I bet he was thinking, "on to the next one". Why would Pantoni make a comment like that two weeks later? Seems silly to me if that is the case...especially when you consider OSU is not likely to stop their pursuit of Jerome any time soon. I, for one, would still love to see Jerome in this class...

I think @bigdog3300 said it best...it's okay to be disappointed that he chose a school other than OSU but let's at least respect the fact the kid made a choice based on where he felt the most comfortable. Jerome didn't play any of the recruiting games and didn't string OSU along until February. He went through this process rather quietly and made what he felt was the best choice for him and his family.

Shoo... We don't take kindly to logical thinkin' folk here.

While I agree with you that we are looking a little too deep into a single quote from a 17 yr old, those coaches know about everything their kids and prospects write on their FB's and twitters. Meyer has someone on staff full-time monitoring that stuff. Sure it's two weeks later but those were Jerome's exact words that Pantoni used. Coincidence? I think not. I don't think it reflects the end of their pursuit for Baker, rather sending a message that "we want tough kids that are willing to work and compete at OSU".

Agree with all (OK most) of the above. It seems like Jerome was classy with his recruiting style, and made the best decision for him. Now, he's truly a 19 year old, and not cogent enough to be able to say that UF is the best for him, but not burn his potential bridges to tOSU in case something happens to Muschamp, etc. at UF. Heck, many of us 'long-in-the-tooth' folks don't learn that until our late 50s......so why would we expect a young man to 'get it'. He didn't lead anyone on, he took it all in, and chose. The fact that an Ahia kid chose out-of-state university, hurts, especially because tOSU 'wanted' him, wow never has happened before? Heck yeah. No reason for us to get all butt hurt about it (see Rules for posting on Recruiting Forum), and knock the kid. He doesn't know that it isn't over until the fat lady sings, or in this case, until the LOI is signed and returned to the university of his choice. I believe we're all saying the same thing here, but in different ways. Good luck, Jerome, may the wind be always at your back. tOSU will field a strong team regardless, and the Buckeye Faithful will still be rooting for an Ahia kid regardless where you land. Go Bucks
