LB Nick Conner (Official Thread)

Gerd: http://theozone.net/recruiting/Football_2015/Nick-Conner-as-Chris-Borland.html

"If you're going to lie awake at night wondering about the one that got away, then maybe you shouldn't let that one get away in the first place."

This is a very well written article for many reasons. First, it acknowledges that Borland and Conner are in no way similar in either style of play or in their recruitment...Borland had only one offer from Wisconsin and was a very late bloomer that mostly played fullback in HS, so you really can't fault the staff for "missing" on him (versus a Denicos Allen that we were fully aware of). Second, it correctly points out that Conner had offers from a number of schools and the staff/entire country was fully aware of his talent and he is right in our back yard. Conner is a guy that would justifiably make a coach kick them-self for not taking. In any event, happily ever after here since Nick is a Buckeye.

As an aside, this is a really good article to share with your friends that gripe about "why didn't we offer this kid, he was from Ohio omgz!!!"

I think about this the same way I think about any "committed" recruit who visits another school: Good for him. I hope he stays committed to Ohio State. Glad he's doing it now rather than closer to Signing Day.

Would hate to think we could lose a hometown kid to Kentucky though, of all places. If I were Michigan, I'd be throwing some money at Stoops.

Agreed - this kid has earned every right to look at all of his options and if UK has made him their #1 LB target he owes it to himself to see what else is out there. I don't see Nick as the type of kid playing recruiting games so I think soon after that visit he'll know which way he's going and won't leave anyone hanging late into the process.
