He's a dropback passer who tucks and runs as soon as a scrambler.

Not really. More like a Doug Flutie/Jeff Garcia type of guy (with much less talent, obviously, since it would be shocking if Bauserman made it to the NFL).

Would we describe him as fleet-of-foot or adequate when it comes to breaking off on the run?

Adequate. Flutie is a pretty good comparison athletically.

I would suggest that this level of elusiveness was much higher than his normal performance

That looks like a highly entertaining Spring Game, almost like a sandlot game.

In that highlight he reminded me of Blaine Gabbert - most comfortable with the drop-back, but when necessary he can tuck it and run for positive yards.

Gabbert had several long runs against us last year after containment broke down.

He can duck under the pass rush for mild gains, but isn't going to outrun anyone. He does not have the pocket composure you'd expect from a veteran and can often bail out of the pocket too quickly. That video was obviously a stronger performance.

Here is the entire spring game, the first few clips give a better feel for Bauserman than the last video:

The first drive is also 1st team O vs D, unlike the typical spring game split squads. Later plays are mixes of different team defenses.

Option A: Start Braxton outright, whatever happens happens. If OSU doesn't win many games, reasoning will be "offseason issues" and freshmen QB. If OSU does do well, then he gets a lot of hype for next year and OSU keeps on keeping on. Either way he gets valuable PT for the future.

Option B: Start Bauserman. Less risk, less reward. Less chance to lose 4+ games, less chance win 10+ games. Fans call back to the Boeckman/Pryor situation from 2008 if things don't go very well. Braxton starts a few games in, and instead of starting against Akron/Toledo, is starting against a team like Nebraska. Or maybe Bauserman does the job, which leads to us having another great season with a healthy chance at Big Ten Title/Rose Bowl. Braxton gets a year to watch from the sidelines, then becomes numero uno day one of the offseason.

Obviously I'm pro Braxton-starting. Maybe I don't know enough about Bauserman but I just get Boeckman flashbacks. Also it's not like this year we have a creme de la creme receiving core, so we're going to be more run-heavy/screen-pass heavy.

Also this has a lot of implication for Fickell's future, hopefully he sees both sides and knows which option better suits the team for success.

Boeckman flashbacks? Boeckman really wasn't bad. Dude gets a bad rap and looking back at it, wish TP would have sat that year out and maybe had some humble pie to eat. Not too sure if that's a fair statement, but, from what I've heard & read, there was quite a division between the upper classman and the rest of the team once that happened.

Anyways, I think you're jumping the gun a bit.. Taylor Graham looks pretty solid and by all accounts, may have the best arm on the team. I'm excited to see Braxton - but don't forget about Cardale coming in.. that dude looks like the real deal too.

A good problem to have.. the offensive line may dicate which QB gives us the best chance.. but I don't think it's a 2 horse race between Braxton & Joe.

Cardale wont be here until next year.

I would think that at this point Coach Fick, cannot have any of the "senior loyalty", that Tressel was famous for. Fick knows he has to win now, and whoever starts at QB will be the person that does that for him. Regardless of class.

I do not believe the Joe Bauserman is the same caliber QB as Boeckman was. JWins hit the nail on the head with Bauserman....

Joe Baseball is a good athlete (actually could be the best basketball player on the team lol) and he can scramble decently by a standard not meant for guys named Pryor, Braxton, Shoelace, or Vince...... The biggest glaring deficiency is his ability to keep his head up and eyes downfield under pressure.

Whatever happens, I hope that the best guy plays, PERIOD.
