Rod has no choice. But urban doesn't seem like the sentimental type of coach that will play a guy just because of seniority. Smith is skating on ice so thin that you can see through it. And he has 2 hungry kids behind him in Ball and Dunn not to mention Curtis Samuel. And EzE has the best combination of size and speed of them all, and I look forward to him getting to start and get a majority of carries. This RB competition will be insanely fun to watch

Smith is done if he doesn't come out on fire at the beginning of the season and maybe even if he does (see #7's senior year this past season). Urban's going to move on looking toward 2015 and beyond. If Dunn and Ball come to play, that's it for Smith.

Wholeheartedly disagree. Elliott is 6'0", 218, while Smith is 6'3", 232, and Smith is nearly as fast, if not as fast, as Elliott in a straight line.

That said, Elliott is the best overall RB out of the four returning scholarship true running backs...he is the fastest, has the best instincts, and is extremely tough. He is going to be something really special by the time he graduates...

Disagree all you'd like. Elliot won 4 Gold medals as a HS senior when he weighed 210 and ran close to 11sec flat in the 100. I don't think straight line that smith is near as fast as him. Elliot is over 220, now, confirmed by his own mother a few pages back, and hasn't lost that speed either. Smith runs the 40 in the 4.6s now, which isn't bad at all, but I can bet Elliot runs in the low 4.5s if not high 4.4s. Smith hasn't run times like that since HS, and even then he didn't have sprinter track speed like EzE.

But I agree with the rest of your post

Yeah, and Smith still dwarfs Elliott, in height and thickness...compare them when they're on the sideline together the next time you see them (or on any of this past season's game if you have them on DVR). Smith could pass for a decent-sized LB. And you should know by now that track speed =/= game speed. Elliott is indeed the fastest is game speed also, but the difference is not as great as you think. If Smith had Elliott's overall "game", and didn't have the dropsies early in his career, he'd be the favorite to be Hyde's heir to the throne.

But ifs and buts aren't into play here. Elliott is the clear man to beat, as I see it, and in disagreement with some others here on the board, I think he gets his 1,000 yards this season.

For some reason this Stacy guy thinks he knows a whole lot about Zeke. :biggrin:

In all reality I hope Smith will push Zeke hard for the starting spot. They really are both beasts, but I still expect Zeke to get the spot. I'd like to see the 3 RB formation we were all talking about a year ago. Never seemed to materialize.

I feel all of you guys. I think all the running backs are talented. They will push each other cause that's the type of atmosphere coach Drayton produces. In the end I don't know if my son will maintain being a starter. I just want him to continue striving to be the best. I do have my own personal prediction! :)

I thought when he came out of HS that he would end up being more of the Percy type of role but boy was I wrong, his RB instincts are amazing and he is a true do it all RB. His ability to catch the ball out of the backfield will pay dividends for years to come even with all of the other young talent on this roster. It is going to be fun to watch this kid grow, and mature as a buckeye.

I like Ezekiel to win the spot simply because he is the full package...size, speed, can catch the ball out of the backfield, and has a great feel for the openings. If he can pass protect, he is going to be tough to get off the field other than to get a breather (not to mention it will help him make a lot of money on Sundays one day). I say this knowing that Smith, Dunn, and Ball are all very talented.
