RB Roderick Smith (Official Thread)

Nobody is in Rod's corner more than I am...really hoping he puts everything together and shines this year. I truly think if there are no issues off the field and no fumbles, he and Elliott are the most talented backs on the roster and could be quite the two-headed monster, with Samuel getting some creative plays called for him and some occasional Dontre touches.

He has shown glimpses of his talent and I would love to see him have a year. I have always thought Rod is going to end up somewhere on an NFL team.

Just an observation: Maybe what is costing Rod Smith playing time (among other things) is his lack of ability to consistently block his man. It looked to me like #7 missed (more than a couple times) blocking his man on the "bubble screen" type pass plays and/or running plays around the end, etc. It would be interesting to know how the coaches graded out his performance in the game Saturday (vs Navy).

Good catch. I noticed the same thing.

Meyer said they have capable players to run the ball, but they don't necessarily have that guy who can slam it into the line. He said that Rod Smith had an 11-second block on a punt return, which earned him some carries. "It's one of the greatest things I've ever seen."

At least he had one good block, longer even than 4-6. Point A equaled point B.

I am surprised that neither Dunn, Rod, nor Ball can slam it into the line.
