RB Roderick Smith (Official Thread)

Look at how many carries the two get, and then look at who comes into the game first. Are you still unclear on the status of the two backs?

could be urban trying to get eze ready to go for the future knowing that rod already has a couple years of experience...maybe saturdays 2nd half of eze and smith is a foreshadowing of next years starting tailback tandem...

Maybe, but it hasn't been that way all season...
Smith has seen very little carries

Magic happens in practice. Game days are a reflection of that magic. Make more magic in practice, get more plays on Saturday.

Even if Elliot is number one on the depth chart I see Rod as a back who will still get a good amount of carries just because he is a great number two back who would not be an immediate drop in talent if left in for a considerable amount of time.

As much as I love Elliott, I really would love to see Rod excel and take the starting spot. He has worked his tail off and tried to correct his mistakes, and he has the talent...would love to see that rewarded. And of course EzE will get plenty of opportunities regardless.

While I commend him for attempting to fix his mistakes (attitude?), and I admittedly have no inside info, I always find it odd when people root harder for the second and third chance guys than the guys that have done everything right from the get go. It's not limited to football either.

I think it stems from recruiting. We get enamored with certain recruits in high school and as they progress through their career we are more vested in their success. Smith was a blue chip recruit that many of us were high on coming out of high school. It's tough to just throw away 5 or 6 years of following a kid and just move on to the next best thing.

I hear you and I am somewhat skeptical with this being Rod Smith, but unless Urban is concealing something (usually he is pretty blunt), then Smith needs to focus on finishing out the semester so he can focus on playing his last season of football here. Sounded more precautionary than reactionary to me.
