Reds Tidbits (2013 Season)

Pirates, West Coast swing vs Giants (4), Dodgers (4), and thankfully the Padres (3), then 3 at home against the Cards and 2 against the A's - we should thankfully be out of the playoff race by August 7th, just late enough to miss the trade deadline and not get value for Choo, Arroyo, or Bailey.

I love being a Reds fan.

Instead of putting us out of our misery now, they will probably go on a nice streak here to start the 2nd half (like they did last yr) just to make us suffer through the entire summer w/ the false hope that this is the year they have it in them to make a little run, just to come up a few games short behind St. Louis and/or Pittsburgh @ the end of the season.

Here's where I am: The Reds are six games clear of both the East and West WC contenders, so the two most likely outcomes are:

1) The Reds win a WC and lose a one game playoff to the Cardinals.
2) The Reds win a WC and beat the Pirates, only to lose in the NLDS to the Cardinals.

Both sound plausible. 1st rd exit is where I am leaning @ this point. Although I am curious as to if the Cardinals young pitching staff will start to show some signs of fatigue come September, come back down to earth a little after they start logging some major/important innings down the stretch.

They'll just plug Chris Carpenter back into the rotation in mid/late August and he'll pitch like he's 25 years old again. It's the Cardinals. Their shit don't stink.

So Brian Kenny has just gone completely off on Dusty Baker, fucking awesome

Brian Kenny ‏@MrBrianKenny 1h
Step back and see: Dusty allowed the probability of his team winning to diminish drastically..because of an individual Statistic.

Brian Kenny ‏@MrBrianKenny 1h
Dusty also trying to allow a player to obtain an Indiv. stat, despite that his GM DOES NOT use the stat to evaluate-or pay-that player

Brian Kenny ‏@MrBrianKenny 1h
Here's one thing I don't do: evaluate on basis of result. If Bailey had escaped w lead, it's STILL the wrong decision, IF it's for a W.

Brian Kenny ‏@MrBrianKenny 1h
But wait, there's more! Just yest, his own pitcher-Mike Leake-told Fox he doesn't think W-L is good way to evaluate P's.

Brian Kenny ‏@MrBrianKenny 1h
How bout this: Reds are 21 runs better than Pirates in Run Diff, but 3 games behind Bucs in standings. Hmm...

Brian Kenny ‏@MrBrianKenny 1h
I've met Dusty, seems like a prince of a guy. But most everything I hear out of Clint Hurdle makes a ton of sense. And I'm seeing a blowout.

Brian Kenny ‏@MrBrianKenny 1h
The Dusty Files: 1. Cozart 2 spot. 2. BP 4 spot 3. Misuse of Chapman 3. Chasing W's 4.Tells Choo it's called "hitting, not walking"

Brian Kenny ‏@MrBrianKenny 1h
According to 3rd order wins: Reds lead Bucs by 3 games. Cluster scoring @MagicRatSF? Or the Dustification of the NL Central?

a retweet from Brian

Mark ‏@marksborrred 1h
@MrBrianKenny Dusty Files No. 5: Sacrifice bunting to move a runner from 1st to second in the second inning. (Allowing teams to walk Votto.)

Brian Kenny ‏@MrBrianKenny 36m
In short, gentlemen, it's a ClusterLuck in Cincy.

Brian Kenny ‏@MrBrianKenny 40m
Here's Joe Peta: “3rd order diff is part-Dusty/part-bad cluster luck for Reds. (It's related; poor lineup leads to inefficient production)”

Brian Kenny ‏@MrBrianKenny 28m
Btw, @joe_sheehan @MagicRatSF - Jocketty didn't hand Dusty a AAA bullpen, either.

Greatest offensive start to a road trip I've ever seen by this team.

Now they'll probably get shut out the second game but hey, I'll take any good fortune at the moment.
