scUMs loss, bad for us in the long run?

Pelini is going to be a helluva coach. Frankly, I think he's more important to LSU than Les Miles is.

The only way that loss hurts us is in the eyes of the voters this season. If they deem Michigan a lesser opponent now because of their loss, our S.O.S. takes a big hit and we may not get into the NC game by winning out. Unless no other team in the nation is undefeated and we manage to win all of our games, then we're definitely in. Otherwise, I'm thinking we need help. Washington beating Boise this week definitely wouldn't hurt.

11 Ohio State Buckeyes (1-0)
This has to be the first time in Power Rankings history that I've penalized a team for a loss by its rival. I was already uncomfortable placing OSU so high, and if Michigan was that overrated, the Buckeyes probably aren't far behind. Plus, Chris Wells only ran for 46 on Youngstown State.
Last game: Beat Youngstown State, 38-6.
Next game: Saturday vs. Akron.

Waaayyy too early to worry about this stuff. Lets see how we look vs UW.

what a joke. good thing the rankings mean nothing at this point.. however it will diminish our win against scUM if they don't beat the hell out of everyone else they play.

When I look inside the top 10.. i see 3 or 4 teams that could hang with us, but i am drinking the kool-aid

It's moronic posts like these that lead me to believe no bozo in the media should ever be labeled "expert". Michigan lost to a 1AA opponent and somehow that means we "aren't far behind" them in terms of being overrated, despite the fact we handled our business on saturday?

This loss will have an effect on our SOS and it will thus affect our BCS ranking. The question is, how much will that effect be?

The answer lies in how well TSUN and all other teams on our schedule do. So, the effect of this one loss, even if it is devastating, may not be very consequential.

We should also remember that we also have within our means the ability to control the perceptions of our team by winning and playing well. Our own performance is also not without its effect on our power rating and poll rankings!

Perhaps the greatest effect is that a win over TSUN now will carry a lot less weight with voters in the polls. However, again, how much would that be? The answer lies in how closely ranked we are to other teams with similar records.

There are some obvious good things that will come of this loss, in addition to the STFU look on the faces of TSUN fans today. The most important one in my opinon concerns recruiting. TSUN looks certain to hold onto Carr until year end, at least. The App State loss certainly means a lot of uncertainty for TSUN coaching stability and that means a real negative for recruiting.

Executive summary: It's too bloody early to worry about where some wanker ranks us!

I can't help but smile at this thread. It warms my heart to think that no matter happens, a Hart-less/Henne-less/Long-less/Defensive-less Michigan will enter the Horseshoe next year with Voyd or a rookie coach. Either way, he will be leaving beaten and bruised.

It kind of makes me wish Michigan hires a newbie coach who makes some proclamation at a basketball game. That would be the ultimate Buckeye/Michigan story, which would be made that much sweeter when Ohio State administers one of the worst beat-downs in the history of The Game.

IMO the mentality that says this loss was bad for OSU in the long run is the mentality that says you should save all your money so you can afford a really good retirement home.

It may bite us in the butt later, but for right now I am enjoying my 2 week Cruise in the Mediterranean. Let the future take care of itself.

Fair enough. Obviously I was meaning a more long term "can't get it done" than that, though. Frankly, it probably will come again. I mean, I trust it's a long way off, but like all good things, there is a finite time for it. I'd hope Tress can coach here until he wants to retire, but I would not like to be the Penn State or Flast of the future, desperately hanging on to what used to be with our figurehead coach.

And, if ANYONE I know ever comes up with the idea to turn a broken handrail in to some kind of monument of a win over a opponent who had already lost a game as a memoir of a signature win, I'll personally see to it that that person never gets a decent hand of cards the rest of his life.
