SG Lenzelle Smith (Hapoel Eilat - Israel)

He really stood out to me in the last game. His quick move to the basket is a thing of beauty at times.

This is a really talented team, and is going to be really fun to watch this year. :osu:

He is very quick and really plays some great defense. He's also very unselfish and seems to enjoy giving up the rock to his teammates. He seems to remind me a lot of Lighty early in his career.

That said, I'd love to see him develop a little more offensive game. I'm hopeful that like Lighty, that too will come with time.

I finally figured it out....for whatever reason, he reminds me of Ron Artest. Something about the proportion of his long arms to his body and his defending style. High energy and arms flailing about.

Gotta make those free throws, though!

His body type reminds me of Michael Young, who was a left-handed SG for Houston's Phi Slama Jamma team in the early '80s with Olajuwon and Drexler. Young was a tall, strong shooting guard (6'7") for the team that lost to NC State in the '83 Title Game in The Pit in New Mexico, where Jim Valvano ran around looking for somebody to hug after the buzzer-beater by Lorenzo Charles.

Let's not forget about Lenzelle:)

- The Buckeyes' perimeter defense was as stout as usual, limiting Duke to three three-point field goals in 15 attempts after the Blue Devils came into the game shooting 45.9 percent from behind the arc.
Their leading scorer, Seth Curry, was shooting 57.1 percent from three. He missed five of six attempts in the game.

"We told our guys, 'They?re going to make some, you can?t be surprised when they do, and you can?t falter when they make them. You?ve got to get back and we?ve got to execute offense because that?s what they do,'" Matta said.

Lenzelle Smith Jr. had his hands full trying to guard Duke's sensational freshman, Austin Rivers, who led all scorers with 22 points. But Matta said Smith "wanted that challenge.

"That?s the big thing with Lenzelle. He?s kind of fallen into his role of knowing what we need there," Matta said.

"He had a wide-open three tonight, takes it, makes it. That?s what we need Lenzelle Smith to be for this team. Rebound the ball and that sort of thing."

The three was Smith's only shot of the game. He also had five rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Matta said coaches talked throughout the game about whether

- Smith was undercut on a rebound by P.J. Hairston of Duke with 2:58 left in the game and appeared to fall heavily on his left hip. He lay on the court for several minutes before being helped to his feet and walking under his own power to the bench.
"He?s in good shape," Matta said. "He got the wind knocked out of him and kind of

The latter was a cheap shot to a certain extent but you couldn't tell the unbiased TV announcers that.

Man oh man this scared me when it happened. When he landed I thought he broke his back. Smith makes this team so much better. Probably the most underrated player on the team. And then when the announcers were saying he just got the wind knocked out of him, I was outraged, but it's about what I expect from those idiots.

Lenzelle Smith on the Mend

Lenzelle Smith said his fall caused a sore bruise on the muscle in his backside.

He said he is getting better every day, but didn't feel so hot Wednesday. Should be ready to play Saturday against Texas-Pan American.

Smith said he was thankful he landed directly on his butt and not on his back. Said he thought about Evan Turner?s fall from a few years ago.

Lenzelle said his rehab has been a lot of stretching, with a little icing. ?Everyone here knows I hate ice. The first time I almost cried. I'll do almost anything to avoid an ice bath.?

If smith would slow down a little bit I think his game would improve. The one play where he took the ball up against the press Saturday and just b-lined across mid-court, stopped, shuffled his feet and traveled, was a microcosm of it. His energy proves great on the defensive end but I think it works against him offensively.

I thought Smith got a bump from behind on that play just as he was picking up his dribble which cause the extra little hop. Certainly he could have been a little more under control given the situation, but with them pressing, I like that he was attacking.
