The 2011 "One That Got Away"

Colvinnl

Heisman
So who cares to make a prediction of which 2011 recruit, if any, will be the recruit we wish we would have offered (meaning the recruit did not have an OSU offer, e.g., Walker or DePriest)?

My guess is Ray Ball, OT headed to Wisconsin. It is hard not to respect the way Wisconsin churns out road graders. This one could especially hurt after missing out on Walker.

I won't miss any of them since if they don't come here then they are irrelevant and we will whup them anytime.
If they don't want to be Buckeyes they are not worth remembering or missing.
Point: in order to miss them wouldn't we have to think one of our own isn't good enough?

Great haul by BC in Ohio...Mihalik, Daniels and Duggan. Same for MSU...Williamson, Cook, Clark and Heath.

I am not talking about players who had the opportunity to go here but went somewhere else. Our staff does an incredible job in-state, with both the "sure-fire" recruits and the diamonds in the rough.

Sometimes they miss; no one is perfect after all. We have had great linebackers, but I don't think anyone would be upset if Greg Jones (Cincinnati Moeller) or Luke Kuechly (Cincinnati St. Xavier), both all-americans, were on the team. There is too much talent in Ohio and for us to be perfect on offers.

I should add, someone predicted we would regret missing out on Jones: http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/...g-jones-michigan-state-signee.html#post879053

Ahh. I see where you're going Colvinnl.

One I think we might look back on is A.J. Jordan. Could be a big steal for Wiscy. They always seem to do really well with under-the-radar WRs from Ohio.

Teague...I know it's not a position of need but anyone who scores 5 TD's in the state championship game has to be on the list somewhere...

Teague is certainly an interesting one...I could really see him excelling in the Big East. I suppose the tricky part of my question is that his skill-set has to translate to the Big 10 (where are players are a little bigger and player tougher defense).

Ray Ball is a good choice. Here are some of mine:

Chase Hounshell (Lake Catholic; Notre Dame signee) - also offered by Florida, Iowa, Wisconsin, Michigan State; maybe a bit undersized, but he was the Division II Defensive Player of the Year, and can also play OL.

Justin Olack (Massillon Washington; Toledo signee) - probably not athletic enough to fit Ohio State's template, but the type of kid who might catch 150 passes at Toledo and leave us wondering "what if...?" Selected Toledo despite having offers from Big Ten and Big East programs.

Christian Westerman (Chandler Arizona; Auburn signee) - not sure what the disconnect was between Ohio State and Westerman, but the Buckeyes threw in the towel early in the battle for one of the top OL prospects in the country.
