Tom Herman (Head Coach FAU Owls)

BuckTwenty;2180775; said:
Herman (no huddle/up-tempo, shotgun/pass heavy/3-to-4 WR spread, screen, pre-snap players in motion, pistol, duel threat QB, fantastic play calling and not afraid to call the trick play) and Urban (TE/H-Back, option, jet sweep, power-I/smash-mouth between the tackles, tough and versatile players at every position, playmaker-centered, spread the field and create the mismatch, kill them with speed, find/exploit the soft spots in the coverage) are going to make for one doozie of an offense.
.....and offensive recruiting will be MUCH easier.

Ohio State football: New coordinator has much to teach
By Tim May
The Columbus Dispatch Thursday August 9, 2012

Preseason is when college football coaches immerse themselves in their jobs, and new Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman is no exception.

His wife, Michelle, tweeted good-naturedly the other day that she wasn?t into the 5 a.m. wake-up calls, and that her husband, concerned with installing the spread offense, likely will need to rise and shine in their basement the next few weeks.

?The basement has been set up nice for me,? Herman said, laughing. ?The couch is very comfortable now, the blankets and pillows are down there, and I?ve got my water jug down there. So everything is nice and neat.?

Herman is immersed, but said he?s feeling no extraordinary pressure, even though the season opener against Miami University is just over three weeks away.?I?d say the biggest thing is excitement,? said Herman, whom coach Urban Meyer made one of his primary hires, luring him from Iowa State. ?Nervousness? I think all of us have been doing this too long to be nervous.

?I think anxious may be a better word. We?re anxious to get started. You know you wish you had three years in the making (in terms of implementing the offense) whereas you have a spring and a fall.?

Through yesterday, the Buckeyes have had just 19 on-field practices, including 15 in the spring, under the coaching staff.

?So a lot of things get accelerated (in terms of installing and teaching the offense), which heightens your anxiety a little bit,? Herman said.

Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer and offensive coordinator Tom Herman only have worked together for one game, but they called 86 plays and produced 56 points

Offensive coordinator Tom Herman and Ohio State called 86 plays against Miami (Ohio) on Saturday and produced 56 points.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Sitting next to offensive coordinator Tom Herman for the first time during a game Saturday, Ohio State fullbacks and tight ends coach Tim Hinton didn't hear a lot of, "Hmm, let's see."

Not while Herman was making 86 play calls in an offense that head coach Urban Meyer expects to get the Buckeyes an extra 25 plays per game over a standard offense.

Intriguing in theory, the offense was balky in execution for the first quarter before all the gears starting turning together in the Buckeyes' 56-10 win over the Miami RedHawks. Next up is Central Florida on Saturday, a tougher test that has the Buckeyes as two-touchdown favorites instead of three-touchdown favorites. It will be the second game of the staff working together, and with the repetition, the calls should only get faster and smoother.

Not that Hinton wasn't impressed Saturday.

"The play caller's got to be really sharp on that next call as soon as he makes the first call," said Hinton, who was seated next to Herman in the press box the entire game, while Meyer gave his suggestions and offered his vetoes from the field. "Sure, we're trying to ID the defense and see what the front is and the coverage and how they played it, but he's already thinking of that next call. It's amazing, but it isn't slow down and look at my call sheet, and here's my best third-and-1 call. It's got to be something that's very ingrained in how you call it. It's a pattern in what you call, and I thought Tom did a phenomenal job of it."

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that yet. The offense had a crap load of plays on Saturday. The pace is light years ahead of last years offense. The first quarter ended and I thought it was halftime. The game lasted a lot longer this week than most I can remember. Thats a huge benefit from the previous regime.

Ohio State offensive coordinator Tom Herman seeing defenses he 'never dreamt of'
By Grant Gannon

Published: Monday, September 17, 2012

Ohio State?s football?s coaches might spend days working on a game plan for the Buckeyes? games on Saturdays, but offensive coaches have found that planning for the first three games of this season seems ineffective at times.

The opponents? defensive schemes, some coaches say, have been entirely different from anything they?ve seen on film.

Rather, the opposition?s strategy has been geared toward stopping the running ability of sophomore quarterback Braxton Miller.

?I?ve seen defenses in the last three weeks that I never dreamt of in my mind to try and stop the QB from trying to run the football,? said offensive coordinator Tom Herman. ?It?s an interesting quandary to be in when you have such a dynamic runner back there, that defensive coverages tend to be completely skewed opposed to what you grew up knowing.?

This specialized preparation by OSU?s opponents has shown in games. So far this season, the Buckeyes have scored a total 122 points and only 20 have come in the first quarter. That is eight points or more below in comparison to any other quarter.

Family Remains Priority In Herman Household Despite Hectic Lifestyle
By Michael Chung

The cameras are rolling, the spot light is blinding, interviews are prearranged and games are played. When the game ends, more interviews are given, more cacophonous highlights, then on to the next one.

In the world of big-time college sports, it never ends.

If the team loses, criticism abounds and some rabid fans even push the boundaries of free speech, threatening harm due to their own emotional dissonance. The spotlight can be stressful when you?re under a microscope.

What about those who aren?t front and center? What goes through the minds of innocent family members who are part of the runaway train that is major college football in the year 2012?

Michelle Herman is one of these individuals. As the wife of Ohio State?s first-year offensive coordinator Tom Herman, Michelle is behind the scenes, watching from a far, yet closer than anyone.

Big stones by Tom Herman to veto Urban on the 2 pt conversion. Hyde wanted the ball, the O-Line wanted Hyde to have the ball, and Urban called for Hyde to get the ball.

Herman figured they'd crowd the line and Heuerman would be able to come free off the action.

Give this guy a raise already and lock him up a long time.
