Illinois or not, our pass defense had better tighten up...we gave up way too many big plays over the middle to a shit team like EMU.
Absolutely. But I noticed that after their last long drive, Rolle was pissed and chewing some asses. The D really tightened up after that and the pressure up front was relentless...

any BPers making the trip? The wife and I will be driving down from Chicago Saturday morning. If there is a BP tailgate or any type of get together, let me know.

I'm going with a group of 8. I was also wondering if there are any designated spots where our fans tailgate. I think our plan for now is to head to the stadium around 8 or 9, pack up some beers and food and wander around aimlessly until we find a good spot. If anyone knows the area and has some advice, I'm all ears.

Additionally, if anyone knows the restaurant/bar scene, any suggestions would also be appreciated. We're getting into Champaign Friday evening and planning on going out Friday and Saturday. This site lists a few places that might be worth checking out.

Heisman and 3 of his salesmen will be heading down I-57 Saturday morning. One of their daughters attends U of I, and she got us the tickets. That section is in big trouble. :)

Dear Illini;
In looking over the results of the games you've played thus far, it is clear that you are playing better football than you have in the past couple of years. Congratulations.

I could not help noticing however, that your opponents thus far have been ranked 56th (Missouri) and 97th (Northern Illinois) in passing efficiency in the FBS. And then there was the team that's ranked 57th (Southern Illinois), which puts them in about the middle-of-the-pack among FCS schools. I'm quite sure you're proud of that 74th-in-the-nation ranking in PE defense against that murderers' row of a schedule.

When you get a minute, could you take a peek at your schedule for me? You'll notice that the game coming up this weekend is against Ohio State. They are ranked 13th in the nation in passing efficiency. And though your opponents could only manage mediocre numbers while you were arguably the stoutest defense on their collective schedules, you are nowhere near the stoutest defense that the Buckeyes will have faced come Saturday. It seems you have some work to do to shore up your defense before the week is up; so I'll let you get to it.

Oh, just one more thing: If you get a chance to review the film, you might notice that the Buckeyes unveiled a fast-paced no-huddle attack a couple of days ago. So you might want to work on getting the play calls for your brand new defensive scheme in really quick.

You have one week. No Joke.

PS: I just watched the game again... The Buckeyes shift into a higher gear when they hit the red-zone. At one point, they got a play off 6 seconds after the previous play ended. Just thought you'd like to know what you're working with. Good luck.

I will be happy to see the Special Teams improve on tackling this week. In other news, 73 points last week will be hard as hell to beat, so I will settle for another 30-40-50 point scoring game from our offense. :osu:

I hope you mean continue to improve, because they definitely improved against EMU.

You all know that I have serious OCD issues with stats.

But I can't take it anymore.

I'm calling it.

I know I've "called it" before... but this game is BEGGING for it.

The Buckeyes have NEVER had a play of 90 or more yards in their history.

NEVER

That shit changes against the Illini next week. Mark it down.

Pryor will get this done.

Never in 100+ years of football.

Next Saturday... It Happens

So, I have to ask: What stat are you looking at that predicts what seems to me to be kind of like a "hole in one" prediction? Also, the never a 90 yards play stat is, of course, limited to plays from scrimmage. Mad props to you, of course, if they do get the 90 yard+ play.

Well now we are into the meat of the conference play and Tressel and the boys have there work cut out for them. Illinois will play us tough for the first half. If we let them hang around after that then things could get tight. The defense plays lights out at times and they look to have some gray areas still in the secondary. I imagine its been pretty hard at times to keep up the enthusiasm at time during these 4 past games but now its down to keep the hammer down and go for the jugular the rest of the season. I hope we can solve the problems on special teams. And thats Coach Tressels area really.

The one play that showed us something was the pass to pryor for the touchdown against Eastern Michigan was a surprise, but i wonder if that was the time to show our hand at such and early stage of the season. I thnk that play was used against Texas 3 years ago (Beckman to Pryor for the TD). Oh well lets hope we can avoid plays like that until we really can surprise other teams late in the season.
