tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Is it me or does it seem like Hilliard may have already been recruiting for us before he commits. The only reason I say this is because Cornell and Baker moved up their dates. And possibly Harris now. Which I am not complaining one bit. Now, assuming we land all 4 does any think they go after sweat hard? If not who do you think they would go after?

Absolutely we still go after Sweat hard. Only 1 of the players you mentioned is a DL, and they play different positions (Sweat is WDE and Cornell is either SDE or DT).

Edit: And of our currently committed players, we only have 1 true DL (Jones who is similar to Cornell in that right now he's a SDE, could grow into DT). The other player who could in theory end up on the line is Conner, but A) I wouldn't assume that and B) I would still go hard after Sweat regardless.

I think NW was referring to if the possible future commits(Cornell, Hillard, baker and Harris) would go after recruiting Sweat. I think they all will be doing sent heavy campaigning for him to join OSU at the Opening. And with social media, I also think they'll stay in constant contact with him.

So Long as it trends well for the good guys on Wednesday at 10 am I think this will be the culmination of something very special. I feel it does and once Hillard and Cornell are recruiting for us the Domino's will fall soon after.

Soon after it'll be Baker. Then Harris, and it will be tough for any commit to not see what we are doing and reconsider us. I would not be shocked if we do flip a kid or two and I wouldn't be at all surprised if we press on the kid from Florida we were in on but recently cooled.

If we gets Hillard, Cornell, Baker and Harris in the fold I also see us getting Sweat as well then. It'll be a small class but perhaps the best quality class we will have had in a long time

Obviously this all hinges on what happens Wednesday. If it goes well I will be pumped for those guys joining the team but even more excited for what those recruits will do for our recruiting of others.

Side note i'm not sure I've seen recruits gravitate toward someone like they do Hillard. Anyone remember such a case where everyone talks about wanting to play with a recruit?

Best one I can think of was the 'Brew Crew' where Brewster was trying to get tOSU four or five 5* OL to join up. I also read that the kid from Michigan was active on his website recruiting for tOSU (Damon Webb). Pretty sure there have been others, Terrelle Pryor ? that helped. It's much more prevalent now with all the social media available. Go Bucks! Still worried about the 85 cap, and how URM will fit all this talent into the class w/o non-renewal of schollies, etc. But these are great days to be Buckeye fanatics, uh?

I'm going to go ahead and update my prediction for the 2015 class with the recent scuttlebutt (and yes, this will be another top 5 class...this is assuming we have 23 spots):

QB: Joe Burrows
RB: LJ Scott (MSU is going to give us all we can handle here though, not as confident as I was before)
RB: Damien Harris (personally I think it would be a miracle if anyone pulled him from us, especially after Cornell and Hilliard pull the trigger)
WR: Van Jefferson (pulls the trigger for us before the season)
WR: Christian Kirk (A&M will be tough but I think we win out...really tight with our hopefully prospective commits)
Pivot:
Eric Glover-Williams (I like him on offense, too explosive to play D)
TE: Nobody (I would not mind having Josh Moore at all but I'm not sure where we stand...always possible for Clark to come back in the final hour...I also really like DeAndre McNeal)
OL:
Grant Schmidt
OL: Kevin Feder
OL: Matthew Burrell (think we are trending well here and might need to warm up the nanners soon)
OL: James Daniels (just a hunch but I think he wants to stay in Ohio...if not, maybe Jurkovich)
OL: Drew Richmond (least confident of anyone on the list here...we were high up but I have not heard much here lately...I also think this spot could easily go to Pat Allen, Connor Dyer, Andre James, or Isaiah Prince)
DE/DT:
Dre'Mont Jones
DE/DT: Jashon Cornell (might as well shade his name with light red)
DE: Josh Sweat (this is more of a wish since he is playing it tight to the vest but with UFM/LJ Sr. putting on full court press, I love our odds)
DT: Neville Gallimore (I know we are in the thick of it but this again is more of a wish than a well informed prediction...really hoping we get him, absolute beast...if not, maybe Wilkins)
LB:
Nick Conner
LB: Justin Hilliard (again, light red...he will be the ringleader in this class)
LB:
Jerome Baker (will announce soon and it is no secret where he is going...big time potential at LB)
DB:
Jamel Dean
DB: Tyler Green
DB: Denzel Ward
DB: Rashad Roundtree (my darkhorse pick but I think we get him in the last hour ala Vonn Bell...you make room for Roundtree regardless)
ATH: Nyheim Hines
LS:
Liam McCullough

My list looks similar:

QB: Burrow and focus on 2016.
RB: Harris and that's it. I'd love to see them land Harris and Scott but I'm just guessing Scott ends up at MSU and Michigan gets Weber.
WR: Don't have a great feel here...Jefferson to Tennessee and Kirk to A&M scares me. Really liked Ofodile and really like Brian Cole. Does Devante Peete visit? Does A.J. Alexander? Does Calvin Ridley make an official? Ridley is the best WR in this year's class, IMO. I have the least feel for what the staff will do at WR compared to any other positions. I agree EGW is likely destined for the pivot spot but I still list him as an ATH...and I still have my concerns about whether he will be in this class but for the time being I have him as in.
TE: Josh Moore is a future tackle to me. I really like DeAndre McNeil as an ATH and that would allow them to go hard after Hausmann and Farrell for 2016.
OL: Schmidt, Feder, Burrell and Daniels. Anyone else is a bonus. The grades talk with Richmond concerns me but I have not idea if it is just that...talk...or if it is legit. I wouldn't pass on Prince either.
DL: Jones is in. Cornell is in (and I'll admit I wasn't blown away by his camp film...I need to see what he does at The Opening). Still need two game changers here at DT and WDE. Gallimore/Sweat it the ultimate prize. Other names that could be thrown in there are Jaason Lewis, Porter Gustin, Darrell Taylor (big fan of Gustin and Taylor), Josh Alabi, CeCe Jefferson, Ricky DeBerry and Christian Wilkins.
LB: Conner, Hilliard and Baker will be in. I don't take anyone else not name Sh'mar Kilby-Lane, Malik Jefferson or Jeff Holland.
DB: Deal, Green and Ward are in. Jordan Whitehead and Marcus Lewis are still out there at corner. I think they have two corners in Dean and Ward. I would pursue Rashad Roundtree, Will Sunderland, Shawn Burgess-Becker and Kendrell McFadden as the other safety to go with Green.
LS: McCullough
ATH: Hines is a great choice and I can't argue with that. Bryce Love is the other name I keep hearing.

My dream finish (within reason):

QB: Burrow
RB: Harris
RB: Scott
WR: Cole
WR: Kirk
TE/Flex: McNeal
OL: Schmidt
OL: Feder
OL: Burrell
OL: Daniels
OL: Prince
DT: Gallimore
DL: Jones
DL: Cornell
DE: Sweat
LB: Hilliard
LB: Baker
LB: Conner
CB: Dean
CB: Ward
S: Green
S: Roundtree
ATH: EGW
ATH: Hines
LS: McCullough

That's a class of 25. Can't see that happening. Have to trim one OL (Prince) and one ATH (Hines). That's still 23. I say take the first RB to commit. That's 22. That MIGHT be doable. Just one of those years where you can't take them all. I will not be surprised if they ask McCullough to delay enrollment or something to that effect.

@wadc45 I am fine with not taking a TE as well with Hubbard recently being moved there. It would help sell Haussman/Farrell to come together if we can really utilize Heureman/Vannett as a combo this year. Now I do like McNeal a lot at H, so I would be fine with taking him if there is room. Considering Hilliard and Cornell are basically in, that would put us at 12 and as you suggested, we might ask McCullough to delay enrollment (honestly, I was surprised we took him with limited numbers...not a knock on his talent, just the position itself). You know there will be at least two more OL (Burrell, Daniels), two more DL (hopefully Sweat/Gallimore), one WR (Kirk/Jefferson/Peete), one more LB (Baker), and one RB (Harris). That would likely leave 2-4 discretionary scholarships where I would imagine that we pursue elite guys with since the above basically covers our positions of need. Guys I would put in the "take 'em regardless" category would be Kirk, Roundtree, Ridley, Burgess-Becker, Hines, Prince, maybe Richmond, Gallimore, Sweat, and maybe Kilby-Lane and Holland.

At WR, I'm not too worried but there is plenty of uncertainty no doubt. But considering the last couple years of WR recruiting (Noah Brown, Johnnie Dixon, Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel/Parris Campbell, Jalin Marshall, James Clark, and Corey Smith) coupled with the 2016 talent we are sitting pretty with (i.e. Nate Craig, Justin Layne, Dionte Mullins, Austin Mack), we really only need one pure WR, maybe two if it is the right two. I think we at least get one out of Peete, Jefferson, and Kirk, maybe two...I especially like us with Kirk, I think the relationships he has with our staff and commits will put us over the top.

I'm more worried about outside receivers. Of course, if the couple of guys we have that could play there (noah brown and maybe Johnnie Dixon) both are hits then it's not as bad of a spot. But that's a big if. Whereas we recruited the inside receive so well that we could get a 20% hit rate and still be sitting pretty.
