Hard to argue with what the 2002 defense could do. At that point, hard to argue that the very same squad would have pounded the ball down the throats of the 2014 Unit until they quit.
I doubt JT/Cardale would have had the ball much to be able to do anything with it. Let us also not forget our current secondary would have had to cover Jenkins.

This makes me slightly sad, if not for a few underlying causes and a lack of early season cohesion, I feel the 2005 team would have their way with both of those respective units.

I can't have the best team in the history of the program as one that found a way to lose to a pathetic VT team at home.
Likewise, in terms of absolute talent, the 1998 team still has the edge for me. If they don't blow that lead to MSU, the entire course of...well everything...could have been different. But I have to go with 2002 over 1968 for their resilience and win over a team that was considered Goliath at he time.

2015 I expect them to go undefeated and beat TCU in the Championship game. Average 45+ points/game and have a top 10 defense. This team will go down as one of the NCAA greatest of all time. This year is gonna be special.

I voted Other (2015) as well. Hey, this could be a very special, and most importantly for a fan like me, interesting season.

Just my opinion, but outside of the teams with Art Schliester, none of the great teams we've listed have a QB who can match up with either Cardale or JT. Greatness at that one key position seems to have been the Achilles' heel of so many good OSU teams. 2014 seems to have turned that corner.

In my lifetime, it's 2002

How do you beat 14? Bear D, early in the season. At the Shoe if you feel like it.

How do you beat 06? Fatten them up after tsun, literally and figuratively. Then unleash a hungry, nasty team coached by some guy using Florida as a stepping stone.

How do you beat 2002?
Luckily, I'm a much older fuck. I remember 1968. Shit-ton of sophomores, back when freshman couldn't play, so we essentially had a team with a shit-ton of true-freshman equivalents. We shutout a #1 Purdue team we weren't supposed to even beat, we ape-fucked Michigan, and we beat the shit out of an O.J. Simpson-led USC for the national title. 10-0 back when 10-0 was really something.

I'm about to go to the ESPN boards, because this is too hard.

The only definitive thing I can say is... '14 put together the most impressive 3 consecutive games - when it mattered most - that I've ever seen. Scarily, the actual national championship game might be the least amazing of the 3. At any rate, I know its not the "Best 3 wins in a row" thread... but I just wanted to mention that again... ad nauseum... thanks for reading.
