WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion)

I lean on the side of too little body fat from excessive weight training & cardio. It's counter-productive to be carrying less than ~7-8% body fat. When you get below that threshold your adipose tissue no longer has anywhere to store H2O. A lot of skill guys in football are way below this 7-8% range (which may be why you see the lean guys drop like flies on a humid day while the big uglies in the trenches play 80+ snaps). You mention soccer, but the same holds for basketball and hockey. Athletes in other sports train towards something approaching functional fitness, where football players that target only increased mass IMHO will sacrifice endurance.

That's a pretty solid sounding reason to me. It has always baffled me with nobody really giving reason as to why. Guess Braxton is too damn muscular :biggrin2:

Serious question, why do football players seem to get cramps so much? I mean soccer players don't get near as many yet run way more and for a lot longer. It always baffles me. Reason I bring that in here is because Braxton has always battled cramps... which scares the lights out of me every time because I always get real worried when he goes down like that (like Beanie did hurting his foot). Obviously Braxton trains and hydrates well so it's unfortunate that it appears he is more susceptible to cramping.
Soccer players aren't sprinting all the time. In fact lots of times they stand still or walk

Football it's an all out sprint when they're active. Also for Linemen, there's a reason why wrestling matches have 3 minute rounds.

You hardly ever stand still in soccer. Jogging or walking sure, but you also have a lot bigger field, no timeouts, no offense only defense only, no huddles, only 3 subs per game in the pro's. You can a halftime, that's it. In a lot of cases soccer players actually sprint longer distances. You run/sprint 20 times more in soccer than in football. The only thing that football players have on soccer players as far as tiring is that it gets tiring taking hits or engaging in blocking.

Just think of a huge bodybuilder ... no cardio and cramp easily. I brother in law is no award winner but he was so big at one point he couldnt even scatch the back of his shoulder - no range of motions. Being too muscular and 'too fit' can be awful.

I saw a guy at the beach last weekend. His arms chest shoulders were huge. Chicken legs. Couldn't put his arms flat to his sides. His elbows were at least 10 inches from his sides. It was pretty funny.
