Well his visit was obviously an outstanding one or else he would have gone up to Columbus next weekend. But, he isn't taking it anymore and he will not be a Buckeye. These kids are very impressionable and Spurrier must have put on a very good show.

Losing Sledge hurts me a little bit more than losing Thomas, but in the end, we still have McCarthy on the table with an offer, and hopefully he realizes that we need him as much as he needs us. In my opinion, we still need at least one more DB in this class, and McCarthy is now on top of my board in that position.

Landing both of these guys makes a GREAT base for Spurrier's team next year. I'm actually scared what the Ol' Ballcoach will be able to do once he gets the right guys in his system (especially WR's!). Wicked good pick up for South Carolina. It should be easy to track down how both of these players do, knowing that both will be attending the same school. Good luck, fellas! You both have one fan already in me.

Impressionable or Logical?

IMHO, impressionable has nothing to do with it. These kids are much smarter than you think. They are looking to maximize their value. And going to a system that will exploit their talents is a logical decision.

Bank the remaining scholarships, hire an OC and have a solid season, and then let's go out and land some big time offensive skill players next year.

Eric is still committed to SC but has not cancelled his tOSU visit yet. Coach Spurrier is 100% against taking anymore visits but Eric said he will talk with his family today to decide if he shold take any other visits to be sure. He liked SC's campus in Columbia as it was not too big but not too small either. He wanted to commit to the school that will throw the ball the most so it was either SC or Louisville. He knows about the "Fun & Gun" and looks forward to the challenge of turning the SC program around under Spurrier.

Uh, wrong. These are 17-18 year old kids. Most are very impressionable. Now, whether the thing that he was impressed with was either Spurrier himself or Spurrier's system is known only to the kid. But to imply that these kids--and that's just what they are, kids--are making their decisions based on pure logic is laughable.

Won't say he will visit OSU but also won't say that he won't. He is committed to SC but Heacock spoke to him this weekend and may have convinced him to still visit Columbus. He specifically mentions "the controversy" as the reason why he may not visit.

For all the throwing Spurrier's teams have done, how many good NFL receivers has he produced? Ike Hilliard? Who else? On the other hand, despite Ohio State's reputation for three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust, this program has produced two of the greatest wideouts the game has ever seen (Paul Warfield and Cris Carter) and a host of pretty good ones that are on the same level or better than anything that Spurrier has produced (Galloway, Glenn, Boston, Jenkins). Spurrier's receivers put up great numbers while in college, but they don't produce after they leave. Choosing Ohio State may not get him as many catches while he's in school, but he'd leave a much more polished receiver, and would make alot more money.

Sledge Tells USC Not To Worry

 WR Eric Sledge (6-4 195) of Apopka, FL committed to USC last Sunday but left open the possibility for more visits. So it's not surprising he scheduled trips for this weekend to Florida and for the 28th to NC State. However, Sledge says those trips haven't dampened his feelings for USC. "The commitment is probably stronger now than it was," Sledge said Thursday night. "I've talked to them more personally this week. I talked to Steve Spurrier Junior tonight around 8:00 PM. I know South Carolina is going to win. They are putting themselves in position to be number one. We've got a great recruiting class coming in. I feel like I can come right in and start." Sledge says Gamecock fans shouldn't make too much out of his other visits. "I just want to see new things," he said. "I told the coaches I'm still with Carolina. I've definitely been a Gator fan but it was coach Spurrier running those teams. But they haven't been the same since Spurrier left. I turned into a Miami fan. I have a cousin at Miami, so I'm a Miami fan." Good thing for USC, Sledge isn't considering the Hurricanes.

Well, it appears his verbal to the Gamecocks really wasn't too solid... as he committed to the Gators tonight. The Gators are actually doing a bang up job this year with the coaching change. Good luck to Meyer and UF.

Eric Sledge made a visit to Columbia, SC last week and made a commitment to the Gamecocks. This week he decided to go ahead with a planned visit to Gainesville, FL. Could the Gators change his mind?

“I went to Florida this week and I changed my commitment. That is the place I want to be and I always wanted to be since I was growing up. I’ve wanted to be there my whole life and I stepped into that stadium I just knew that was it for me,” Eric Sledge said. What was the best part about the weekend?

“The best part about the visit was the academics and the academic facilities they have. It’s so close to home and I just love it.”

Is Sledge now completely done with recruiting?

“I am absolutely through with recruiting now. No more in homes or official visits except with Coach Meyer.”
