'05 SC OL/DT Hivera Green (Virginia Tech signee)

free insiders

comments about Hivera during Shrine practice

The potential is certainly there for Hivera Green to play near 300 pounds, but at 6-5, 250 right now, he is not using the leverage and reach advantage he has at his disposal. Often he is trying to reach for the ball carrier, but he certainly has the athletic ability to make more plays than he does. Again the potential is there, and when the Tar Heels and Sandlappers strap it on this Saturday, Green could end up playing up to that level.

Sounds like he could be a great d-lineman especially if he can add some weight. I just think that the need for d-line is slim, if the coaches feel good about Ashley and Wilson.
I dont think the coaches can feel good about either one of those guys but I agree this guy could be a fallback guy. Ashley has me excited but who knows what happens with the PSU trip, I do think USC is out especially after their DL coach left. I think Wilson is going someplace else, if he wanted to goto tOSU he would have done it already, if we were truly his number2 before and he saw the HUGE need for another pass rusher in this class, he would have committed last week.

Well I think the coaches now a little more than we do. I feel the same way about Wilson too, but I think Ashley is ours.

Audio interview with SCVarsity.com...premium Rivals link

--Can see himself playing inside or on the end in the future.
--Playing rush end in the Shrine Bowl game
--Very polite and well-spoken. Plenty of "Yes sir" "No Sir"
--Talks about practicing hard everyday
--Top 3 schools USCarolina(1/7), Clemson (1/14), VTech(1/22) with Vtech and Clemson leading. Even down the stretch and visits will decide.
--Carolina was out of it when Holtz was there because they did a "poor job" recruiting him. Spurrier has been excellent thus far.

Green gained prominence playing alongside standouts Kerebi Gause and Tee Sindab as a junior and finished his senior season with 72 tackles, a forced fumble, two recovered fumbles and a pair of pass breakups despite being hampered by a pair of high-ankle sprains.

He has more than two dozen offers from major Division I colleges and has a handful official visits, including Clemson and South Carolina, scheduled for early next year.

At 6-foot-4 and a lean 267 pounds, Green's size and agility are what makes him a prized recruit, Jordan said.

"[Oklahoma] Coach [Bob] Stoops probably said it best. He looked at Hivera and said, 'Son, you're a skinny 270 pounds. You're going to be a big kid.' Hivera has got a lot of football in front of him," Jordan said.

I really would like the coaches to get him an offer, because I think he would give us some strong consideration b/c he has said he would like to play in the big ten. Also that would give us 4 possible d-line recruits and we could get two I would think.

Green reiterated the 3 visits and dates(Clemson, USCarolina, and VTech). Said he does not plan to make any other trips. Again says there is no leader.

IMHO, he will visit tOSU IF an offer is given. However, every word I am hearing is that Spurrier is working hard on this one but VTech is his favorite while Clemson offers the best chance for early PT.

Grad how quick is he off the ball and around the end.

I don't know if I am as sure as I was with Ashley as I was and I am still not sure about Wilson. They could easily both come here one come here and one not or both go elsewhere, but I think the coaches should at least give Green an offer as I would like to have a least one more d-line if not two.
