'06 CA WR David Ausberry (USC signee)

I had not heard that......I guess he just wants to get the free trips around the country then.
No, I honestly believe he wants to see the other schools. USC is the school of choice right now...they will have the early success but getting kids to visit always opens a possibility.

It will be very, very hard to pull a premiere California kid away from a solid, love-filled USC offer -- even a kid born in Columbus, who's cheered for the Bucks his whole life.

distance will not be a factor
No matter what they say, distance is always a factor. Mom, Dad, family and friends want to be able to go to the games.

But it's great that he's camping at tOSU. He'll get a real eyeful when he walks out of the Ohio Stadium tunnel and sees the turf that Chris Carter, Joey Galloway, David Boston, Teddy Ginn and Santonio Holmes have run on.

They say every kid applying to college should have a 'fall-back' school. Maybe tOSU can be David's.

By Don Hoekwater Columnist/Photographer
Date: May 12, 2005

GoBlueWolverine.com continues its coverage of West Coast recruiting as we once again chat with a prospect from the Central Valley region of California. Lemoore is a sleepy farm town just south of Fresno, and the home of wide receiver David Ausberry. Will the Wolverines be able to pull another star from the area that produced Johnny Sears? GBW recently spoke with Ausberry to find out.

David Ausberry of Lemoore High School is a new name on the Michigan recruiting radar. Last season another prospect who emerged from the same area ended up a Michigan signee. Defensive back Johnny Sears is from nearby Fresno, and the two players are friends. "Johnny and I are good friends," The 6-foot-5, 215-pound Ausberry said. He tells me how great the program is, and how much he likes the coaches. I'm very interested in Michigan."

Will that friendship be enough to bring the two together in Ann Arbor? "I'd say USC leads right now," he said. "I went down there for their Junior Day and I really like the players and coaches there. My mom said she would like me to stay closer to home, but said she'll support whatever I want to do."

With 12 offers total, Ohio State, Cal, and Mississippi round out his top five. Ausberry said Michigan, Washington, and Washington State have been by his school so far during the May evaluation period.

He said he will attend the West Coast combine in Santa Barbara on May 14, and would like to camp at USC and Ohio State. He said he'd also like to make it up to Cal for a visit. "I'm also going to the Nike camp at Stanford," he said. "I was up there last year and ran a 4.5 40, but it was rainy and I almost slipped."

Ausberry said he would like to take all of his official visits, and then decide sometime after his season. He reports a 2.9 grade-point-average and took the SAT for the second time on May 7.

But im guessing that even Wstripes knows that a kid could always change his mind.
Who's to say that if we got him back to his hometown that he wouldn't fall in love with Columbus all over again?
Very true. Ausberry was supposedly recruiting for USC at Spring Practice....but then again, Gwaltney was recruiting last year for USC also....

From the Michigan site...David says his style is similar to Mike Williams. He admits to watching Michigan and Ohio State a lot while growing up. OSU and TSUN are in his top 5 along with USC, Nebraska and Georgia. He confirms that USC is his favorite but says that he is not ready to make a commitment. He plans to visit all the schools in his top 5.
