D'andre McDaniel
Height: 6'2
Weight: 180
Forty: NA
School: Godby HS, Tallahassee FL
List: tOSU, FSU, Miami, Florida, Alabama, Clemson
Video: Here
- He was named to the Rivals All- Junior team
People call McDaniel a Kenneth Phillips clone, and if those comparisons are true look out for him. McDaniel is a prototypical big hitting safety who lets no one get behind him.
DeAndre McDaniel had a productive year on both sides of the ball as a junior. From his wide receiver position, he hauled in 27 catches for 657 yards and six touchdowns. At safety, McDaniel had 53 tackles, eight interceptions, and he returned three of those for touchdowns.

I don't know which clips I liked better, D'andre on offense or defense. Great nose for the ball in the air on defense, and great cutback ability with the ball in his hands. His video was very impressive...

Video is nice...I'd be interested in seeing that 40 time. He looks like a strider which may be deceiving in assessing his speed, but he looked 4.6ish in that film...more quickness than speed.
That's funny because while watching the video I thought to myself that he didn't seem like the fastest kid I have ever seen, and even got run down a few times. But his instincts seem to be impeccable...

Mcdaniel's 3 leaders are FSU, Miami, and Clemson. FSU has a winning program, and he has always been a FSU fan. He likes Miami's prestige. He likes how Clemson plays and their colors. Florida and Arkansas have offered. Mcdaniel will camp at FSU and Georgia. No mention of tOSU in this update.

This one pains me to move, because I think he is going to be a stud safety, but until he shows a little more interest in OSU, into the locker you go...

DeAndre McDaniel (6-1, 185, 4.45) of Tallahassee Godby, Florida is one of the most talented two-way players in the country for the 2005 recruiting season. On film, he is one of the most aggressive safeties that I have seen in awhile. The fact that Godby has as many as seven or eight Division I prospects makes his highlight film even that much more impressive, because he is the best defensive player on the football field on every game that he plays in, but he also a very talented wide receiver on offense.

On the highlight film that Head Coach Shelton Crews sent me, the first three plays for McDaniel would be enough to get an offer from every major D-I school in America. On the first play, he grabbed a ball between two defenders for about a 20-yard reception. Then on the second play,he sacked the quarterback for about a 10-yard loss, and then on the third play, he intercepted a pass and went 70-yards. On that last play, he ran over one tackler at the 50-yard line, reversed the field, and streaked down the right sideline for the score.

I had seen enough, but I decided to watch a few more plays. On the fourth play, he came-up and hit a receiver so hard that he knocked his helmet off and the helmet went backwards about six yards away from the tackle. Then on the fifth play, he ran another interception back about 70-yards and the sixth play, he ran another interception back 50-yards, but did not score.

"DeAndre McDaniel is the best player in the country," said Coach Crews and I believe him. He has exceptional talents on both sides of the football and he also makes huge players on both sides.

Roy Upchurch was also sensational on this highlight film and it is no wonder why he was a bonified All-American and Super Playmaker in 2004, but McDaniel may be one of the top Playmakers in the country for 2005. I am going to rate him up about 25 spots on my National Top 100. McDaniel is also a member of my Elite Top 100 Junior All-American Team that wil be anounced on February 28. I have also extended him an official invite to play in my Second Annual Coaches All-American Bowl Game Classic.

His final junior stats included 27 catches for 656-yards and 6 touchdowns on offense. On the defensive side, he recorded 53 tackles, had 8 interceptions, and ran three of those interceptions back for a touchdown. I saw two of them before I turned off the highlight tape.

Some of the other talented Godby players include Offensive Lineman Kevin McCaskill (6-3, 285, 5.2); Offensive Lineman Kareem Crowell (6-4, 275, 5.1); Defensive Back Marcus Udell (6-1, 180, 4.5); Tight End/Defensive End Frank Grimes (6-1, 265, 4.7); Linebacker Rod Murray (6-1, 200, 4.7); and Quarterback Emanuel Francis (6-3, 185, 4.6).

McCaskill is a four-year starter and he may become a college center. He was a Second Team All-State Selection in 2004. Crowell played both ways as a junior, but will be recruited as an offensive lineman. "Udell might be the best athlete on the team," says Coach Crews, and he had four interceptions as a junior.

Grimes is the strongest on the team and he finished his junior season with 60 tackles, 13 sacks, and 31 tackles for a loss.

McDaniel was a 3A All-State performer after his sensational juniur season. He already has offers from Miami, Florida State, and Clemson, but he will receive many more by June 1.

I will echo earlier sentiments that he looks a bit slow for being a top 50 caliber player, especially at wr, but i guess he has good football instincts and maybe at safety his speed wont be as much of an issue.

From FlaVarsity.com...His teammate Roy Upchurch signed with Alabama and his cousin Fred Rouse signed with Florida State. They are two schools he is intersted in, along with Miami, Tennessee and Illinois, although he does not have a top 5 yet.
