By Bob Lichtenfels...Vidal's father wanted a laid back unofficial to PSU last weekend and instead it turned into a circus. He does sound any closer to a decision.

An injury, a letter, and an Internet explosion

USC's Hazelton featured on popular blog after father sends letter to coach Carroll
Tuesday, October 21, 2008 By DANIEL O'LEARY
STATEN ISLAND ADVANCE

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The sports "blogosphere" was abuzz this weekend with a letter sent from Dexter Hazelton, the father of University of Southern California wide receiver and former Moore Catholic star Vidal Hazelton, to Trojans head coach Pete Carroll, alleging poor medical treatment to his son this year and a misdiagnosis of Vidal's injuries in 2007.
The letter was originally crafted on Sept. 1, and Dexter Hazelton stated that he was "perplexed by the lack of attention that (the USC) training staff is giving to Vidal's injuries." He also cited a misdiagnosis by USC's medical staff in 2007, when Vidal apparently played with a double hernia in his stomach. Vidal had hernia surgery this offseason.

On Thursday, a message board called "SC Playbook" on the Web site Scout.com posted the letter in its entirety. In an interview with the Advance last night, Dexter Hazelton said that he was not responsible for the letter hitting the Web.
"I don't know how the letter got out there. I have no idea," he said. "When I sent it, I cc'd to a number of people because normally he (Carroll) doesn't even check his email. When he finally got it, that same day he called me and we dealt with the situation right there. That's just how I normally deal with him. Everything I do, I do it in writing."

By Scott Wolf on December 2, 2008 3:24 PM

USC wide receiver Vidal Hazelton has decided to transfer, according to sources inside the athletic dept. Hazelton will not be at football practice today. Sources said Hazelton is leaving for several reasons, including to move closer to his family in New York. His grandfather was recently diagnosed with cancer. He could not be reached for comment.

Penn State Board discussion:
Vidal Hazelton to transfer from USC
Vidal Hazelton Said he want to be closer to his grandfather who has cancer. His grandfather lives in Georgia though.
Also, Vidal has only one season of eligibility left.
Funny that Broderick Green and Hazelton chose this year to leave Southern Cal when they would have an opportunity to play against PSU.

At least D'Anton Lynn made a smart college decision .

It is a bit starnge every time a player wants to transfer, they find a sick family member or use it as an excuse to try and get leniency in their case. Not to say it is never an issue. But how does a sick grandather in Georgia, compromise his attendance at USC?
