Dudley was a bit shorter and a good bit heavier - 250-260 neighborhood when he played FB.
Thanks, Oh8.

I went and looked it up...according to a game program I dug up from the 1995 season, Dudley is listed as 6-7 and 240 lbs...

So, it is feasable that Josh could play the position...though not likely.

It'll be tough for him to put on the weight to play TE if he focuses on basketball as soon as the football season is over.

He's a stud hoops player, so he can obviously leap. No reason to put him at TE. Keep him at receiver where he can match up against a 5-7 corner like Brandon Harrison.

From a Colerain grad/fan, congrats Josh! Its been fun watching you at LW against Colerain and, as a Buckeye fan, I am looking forward to you being in Scarlet and Gray!

Westbuck...

I was at the Colerain O-lineman camp this past week...I saw a very tall kid from West, but I couldn't get close enough to know if it was Josh or not...the kid was pretty darn tall...The reason I ask is because he does project to a WR/TE and I was wondering if he was there to work on blocking techniques...can you confirm or deny this?

Thanks!
Could have been, but I'm not sure. I don't think West has any other guys with Josh's height who have that kind of build, so if you saw someone that size, it probably was him. Although it would be odd for him to be at a lineman camp, so....I can neither confirm, nor deny...sorry:wink2:

If he does not learn to jump any higher, which he will at OSU and during his senior year, he will be able to catch a pass well above the goalposts. Read the following math if you want...

The Vitruvian man is used to determine his wingspan (in real life wingspan is slightly higher than the value this formula computes... especially in athletes, but that is acceptable for now).

Height 6'8" = 80 inches
One Arm = 40 inches (Wingspan = Height)
Top of Head to Shoulders = 20 inches (1/4)

Vertical Reach = 60 + 40 = 100 inches
Vertical Jump = 32 inches
Catchable spot on hand = -4 inches

128 inches = 10.667 feet

That's incredible. Welcome aboard Josh. Tall WR with great hands sounds like Plexico Burgess. A walk on top 150 BB player - incredible. I imagine that Matta will run his big men as much as he can so an extra big in the fold will definitely work his way into the rotation. I have been routine for Josh Chichester for a while now. The reports were getting dreary but now life is good.

This is unbelievable!! Welcome aboard Josh, and we are thrilled to have you in the scarlet and gray. Just one day after officially learning about Oden and Conley couldn't have hurt our chances, but then it could have. If he was starving for playing time or to be "the man" then he could have opted elsewhere. This tells me he WANTS to be here, and JT and Matta are definitely on the same page. You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours. With Matta being the true beneficiary of this decision, with no schollie used up, will anyone notice that the best recruiting class (ever?) just got this much better? I'm just blown away with all the great news we've had this last week or so, and I've got my seatbelt fastened for what may happen next. This is definitely the best way I can think of to get football season here even faster, news like this to keep us occupied. Go Bucks!P.S. I would like to apologize for whatever reason I have recently received ruby's and a "pure scUM" tag. If I can do anything to get back into you guys' good graces, let me know. I deleted a couple of posts that had no value whatsoever.

Welcome to Buckeye football and basketball, Josh. I'm thinking the football comparison may be more like Harold Carmichael than Plaxico Burress.

You know what this makes you, but I can't call you that in the recruiting forum. I'd suggest less Michael Jackson and more Jessica Alba. But at least you're old enough to remember Harold Carmichael, but not so old that you forgot him.

on BN it was either Duane or someone else that said Chichester is up to around 230 when his measurements were taken at camp.

if that is true, and he really wants to play football, getting him up to around 250 and sticking him at TE would be a real nightmare.

either way he is a matchup problem regardless of where he lines up.

If he is bulking up at that rate it could actually help him find a role on the BBall squad. Rather than competing with everyone else for PT in the normal rotation he could become something of an enforcer to be used in special situations i.e. five fouls in five minutes but leave a trail of broken bodies in his wake.

Not to go OT but if a kid like this does want to make a serious run at BBall (his comments indicate this might not be the case) I would like to see JT give him a fair shot. Specifically, in his Frosh year if he is Redshirting (taller kids are more likely to RS for football) release him to BBall as soon as their practices start. Let him learn the system when they are working on that rather than game prep. That would really give him a leg up in future years.

**************

Based on some info from BN premium I will retract my statement that he is not serious about BBall - I had read another interview where he seemed to be waffling on that.

Also from BN (which I will quote here since it is free this weekend):

“All of his final schools agreed he could also play basketball after the football season is over,” Cox said. “It had to be that way for them to be in his final five. Two of the schools, their basketball coaches said they did not want a football guy. So he dropped them.

Why would a coach do that? A football kid is free to the BBall program. You don't have to start him, but why not give him a shot?
