'06 TX QB Sean Hakes (Akron signee; transfer to Orange Coast CC)

Hakes Question

Has anyone seen Hakes play other than SHakes? Living in the N. Texas area, I've tried to research the kid and I've got to say there isn't much about him anywhere. All I've found thus far is that he's been primarily a back-up qb at a private school. I read somewhere that he once attended a public school in the area, by the way their qb might be the real deal, but transferred. I know what we see on paper sounds great, almost the perfect recruit, but let's wait and see what he can do in a game. In all my time watching football in this state I just haven't seen many prime-time recruits come out of the private school ranks. Questions of SHakes: Where can we find results from the combine? How did your brother finish up? Who ended up with the top qb award?

Answer:

At the combine there was a total of 7 balls thrown throughout the hours that they were there. also they were not allowed to throw on the sides to stay warm. Sean had the top overall agility numbers at the combine. He ran a 5.0sec 40 at 1:30am on a day he had been up since 6:30am so i dont know how much validity i would give tht #. There were 86 QB's at the combine and it was very unorganized. I couldnt tell you who won the overall qb and i couldnt explain to you how someone could determine that when a player throws a ball waits in line for 35min and throws again, its a very unrealistic situation if you ask me. You said that you live in the area, what town do you live in? You should come out to Nolan sometime and watch them play. Sean wasnt the back up, he shared time with the Senior Captain who was also the returning starter, cause Sean just transferred there this year. They didnt put up the stats cause their coach called off the dogs when they began to blowout the competition, as well they had rb with over 1500 yards who was also a senior captain. They are running the spread next year, watch for Sean to put up some solid numbers in an offensive that is bsed around him. Also the combine had no college coaches in attendance... every college coach that has seen Sean knows that he is the real deal, tOSU hasnt even seen him and they are recruiting him. They just know that his Grandpa played baseball for tOSU and Michigan is on him hard, QB coach Loeffler flew straight from the Rose Bowl to come and visit him at Nolan. I dont really listen to what gurus say about players, i wait to see what the coaches think cause they have the scholarships. Sean isnt really concerned with the lack of publicty he is getting because of the amount of attention he is getting from the Big 10 schools. He also realizes that by going to the Nike camp at Penn State last year that he only exposed himself to teams up north... he's gonna play ball up here, its just a matter of where, I transferred to Ohio University so I can watch his games where ever he may go. The Big 12 doesnt put out NFL Qb's, i cant name one that is currently starting... can you?

Nope. Because there aren't any. However, the MAC isn't a bad place for QBs in the NFL either. That having been said, tell Sean to come to Ohio State, not to join you at OU.:wink2:

Here's the breakdown by conference (I know that in certain cases, you can argue who the starter is...I just made a call and went with it. Note also that I went with the school's current conference, which may not have been the conference that school was in when the QB played there):

Pac-10: 6 (Boller, Bledsoe, Palmer, Plummer, Feeley, Harrington)
Big-10: 5 (Brady, Green, Collins, Brees, Griese)
MAC: 4 (Leftwich, Pennington, Roethlisberger, Culpepper)
WAC: 3 (Garcia, Carr, Rattay)
Big East: 3 (McNabb, Hasselbeck, Bulger)
ACC: 3 (Vick, Testaverde, Brooks)
SEC: 3 (P Manning, E Manning, Grossman)
C-USA: 2 (Favre, Ramsey)
Others: 3 (McNair-SWAC, J McCown-Southland, Delhomme-Sun Belt).

I know that someone might point out that the Big 10's list includes some quarterbacks that aren't solid starters for next year (Griese, Collins). Most of the other conference lists do as well (Feeley, Garcia, etc.). And there's still remarkably little from the Big 12 (i.e. none), and fewer than I would have expected from the SEC and ACC as well.

SHAKES--Thanks for the answers. Currently I'm in Denton but the job keeps me on the road a lot. Hopefully I can get out there to watch your little brother play sometime in the fall. I know the 7 on 7 game is big down here in the spring and summer, is Sean's team planning on playing much? If they are making a switch to the spread those types of passing tournaments ought to help him get in the flow with his receivers. By the way your brother has got to appreciate the amount of time you seem to be putting in hyping him to everyone, what a great brother you must be.

One last question. Why is Sean at a private school? If as you say his coach doesn't seem to try to help him ought too much, the talent they compete against and play with is depleted, and he had to "share" time with another qb that you and I'd assume the rest of the family believe was less talented it just doesn't make since to me? You know I'm not trying to stir anything up with my questions I'm just interested in your brother's situation cause it seems if he's as good as advertised every public school in the DFW area would be chomping at the bit to have Sean play for them. Good luck to Sean in the recruiting world because from everything I've heard it's one crazy roller coaster ride.

Stats

Like i said before they ran a run happy offense and he shared time with the senior captain, so he didnt put up crazy stats, but he was also played safety for 5 games due to an injury so in those games he played both ways. Sean was 36-57-1int 372yards 6TD"s he also ran for 315 yards on 36 carries 5TD's. On defense he had 28 tackles 1 forced fumble and 4ints. He made All-District on Defense after those 5 games, he thought it was pretty funny, cause he's alot better QB than safety. They are moving to the spread net year and he is pumped about the opportunity to air the ball out 40 times a game, which is almost as much as he passed all season in one game. This past year what you cant see in stats in the playmaking ability that he has, on 4th down hes the guy they went to everytime... even on defense when he made an int to stop a drive at the end their closest game where the other team was trying to get the lead. I am putting together his highlight film this week and it should be on rivals asap. Look for his athleticism and accuracy... not to mention some big hits on defense and some ints. I figured adding those on his highlight film couldnt hurt.

P.S. Their team ended up winning their first State Championship in school history, I attached a photo from it. I have more coming.

with his passing ability, plus his athleticism and escapability, the spread should be a nice fit for Sean. kind of like JT moving to the spread for Troy against Michigan.

Hmmm...

Im not to sure I would have to ask him, he was drafted and played MLB for a while but Im not sure where or when. Ill get back to you on that one. He wasnt in the Majors for long, he played first base and he tore his achilles tendon in a game after a his first or second season.
