A poster on Bucknuts said that McDaniel's coach resigned from Landstown, and that his coach was a huge Gator's fan.

Might be why hes looking around now, take it FWIW.

Coach Beatty stepped down to become the offensive coordinator at Hampton University. I've not heard about any connection between him and Florida, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. He went something like 40-2 over his three seasons as coach at Landstown, with the two losses coming in the state title games. So I'm thinking he's gotten familiar with a few DI programs over that time span.

Regardless, Coach Beatty is still geographically close to Landstown, and I'm sure he is still providing guidance to McDaniel about his college choice. I know that his players feel loyalty towards him because one of his kids is transferring from Virginia Tech to Hampton to play for him again--and that kid was seeing playing time for the Hokies as a freshman. I think McDaniel only played for Landstown for one year, so maybe his loyalty to Coach Beatty isn't as strong as others'.

I would still be surprised to see Damon decommit from Floida, but if he did I would take this kid in a heartbeat. I remember seeing his video on Rivals and thinking he looked every bit as good as Harvin. He was quoted last week as saying that he was still considering a visit to FSU on either 1/20 or 1/27. Last year he had 68 catches for 1,125 yards and 16 TDs. Those are impressive numbers...he seems to have a knack for big plays. I really like this quote from him:

McDaniel: "I have power and speed. I also have good hands. I've got a great ability of breaking tackles, using my hands well in traffic, and I'm an easy target for the quarterback. I'd really like to concentrate on the ball more and do some more blocking. I also would like to hold onto the ball better while I run and get into better shape."

fwiw, Damon had 80 catches for 1,700 yards and 24 td's this year. I also agree that it is unlikely that he will back out on his verbal, but Damon is a special player, and I'd love him to join the scarlet and gray.

my bad...the numbers I quoted are listed in his Scout profile for 2005 but they say "As a JR"...
