'07 FL WR Deonte Thompson (Florida signee)

While this is true they are in on some big WR's this year like Jammere Holland, Vidal Hazelton, ect. I'm sure there are more and G8erBait could tell us who all will be around most likely.
i gotta agree with dingy. we are stacked at WR right now and the only person that can leave in the next couple of years will be holmes. we are also in on some great WR this year to including David Ausberry. i find it hard to believe he will leave his home state and his childhood favorite Florida. its great to know that we have contacts in holmes and dukes. i forgot to mention earlier that dukes is talkin him into coming tOSU and hopefully that will have a great pull

we can still get Ausberry, Small and Chichester this year and still have room for Deonte. When he comes in Ginn, Goznalez and Lyons will all be Seniors, and that's if Ginn stays for 4 years, though I think he does. In Deonte's Freshman year and will be able to play woth cousin Albert for 2 years and watch him grow into a dominant WR. We would have this at the position:
Seniors: Ginn, Gonzalez, Lyons
Juniors: Dukes, Robiskie, Hartline
Sophomores: Ausberry, Small, Chichester

Once the 3 seniros leave, that leaves Dueks and Small as our speed guys with room for Deonte to emerge as a Soph. IMO, our depth should look real nice to him.

Our WR recruiting has been weak the last 2 years. The funny thing is that each of the last 2 years we have been in on some great prospects, but have come up short on each.

Florida's starting WR, imo, are as good or better than any group in the country. The only thing, like dingy said, is that Baker, Caldwell, Corn, Jackson, Dickey and Tookes will all be gone once Thompson comes in.

Our younger WR are somewhat weak. Here is a breakdown, as someone wanted to know above:

Mike Mcintosh: Will be a rFR this year. Good talent, but hasn't done anything yet. Won't crack the top 5 this year.

Nyan Boateng: Great physical tools. Will be a true freshman this year and will likely redshit. Needs to work on fundamentals. Good size at 6-2 200. Vertical leap of about 40 is impressive. Great b-ball prospect who played with Sebastian Telfair.

Louis Murphy: Not fast, but big. 6-3 200 and good hands. Will be a true freshman this year. Wasn't highly recruited outof HS, only 3-star guy.

David Nelson: Will be a true freshman. Highest regarded WR prospect this past year. 6-5 190 pounds. Great hands, but only average speed.

Our WR class this year should be the group that Thompson would have to compete with. Percy Harvin has us in the top 2 with USC. Jamere Holland has us in the top 2 with Arizona. Hornsby has us as his leader and there are other good prospects that like us as well.

wow, nice breakdown. looking at that, our depth definitely looks good. it could look even better if Ausberry goes to USC(which is where i believe he will end up unless Harvin commits there) and small ends up playing defense. i still have to say he will be Floridas to lose just because they were his childhood favorites. hopefully i am wrong about Ausberry and Deonte:biggrin:

Yeah he would be a great get but remember it is really early he is only going to be a junior. Florida may be his favorite team but alot can change in 2 years. If Harvin picks USC we may have an even better chance with Ausberry never thought of that. Also don't forget Lyons is a possibility. But without Ausberry in the fold the depth would look rather good. Besides he is more the burner type and I really think by the time gonzo and ginn graduate he could be the speed guy. Small may go on defense and that would be the only small burner type of receiver.

In a similar manner BGB broke down OSU's depth chart in '07, I'll break down UF's, assuming some RS's and having Scout.com's ratings. Also assuming the best case scenario for UF recruiting-wise this year:

Seniors: None
Juniors: McIntosh(4*), Boateng(3*)
Sophomores: Nelson(4*), Murphy(3*), ?Hornsby(5*), ?Harvin(5*)
Freshmen: ?Holland(4*)

As the gatorbait guy said, it seems like the one he'll have to compete against will be this year's group, which will be talented most likely, but inexperienced. Given that Meyer uses almost exclusively 4-5 WR sets(including the H-back), he'd have not only a good chance to get meaningful PT, but also start during his true freshman year.

lyons is a possibility but i think he will end up either at oklahoma or miami. i dont think he will affect the decision though since he wont be the burner that you were talkin about. he is much like chichester in which they are big but not the fastest.

There's a post on BSB that says that we may be in the early drivers seat for Deonte. I hardly ever go to BSB, so if anyone that frequents BSB can tell us if the guy saying this is legit or not, that would be great. The person who started the post seems to think the guy with the info. (muckstepper) is reliable.

Well if this is true I think I would love for the buckeyes to extend him an offer on signing day and see where we can go from there. I believe there is a top lineman from Belle Glades next year too, so maybe we might get the upperhand on him if we are able to bring Thompson in too.

I think if we could bring him and Jefferson(Glenville), and maybe Hubbard(St. Ed's) in next year that would be a top Wr class in the nation.
