By Miller Safrit...Vance has offers from Auburn, Illinois and Ohio State and is waiting on one from Florida. He has been timed at 11.2 FAT (Fully Automatic Time) in the 100. He will wait to make a decision.

The Boar Hog, Horkan Sportsmanship Award, Charlie Pippin Unsung Hero Award and the Knuck McCrary Fighting Spirit Award were brought out of mothballs on Tuesday and their presenters gave brief histories of how they came into being.

And two new awards — honoring the special teams player of the year and top weightlifter — were added to list of honors made at the banquet, which honored the 2005 football team.

One new permanent award presented for the first time this year honors the top special teams player and went to junior return man Vance Cuff.

Colquitt concludes spring football

Several players — including All-Region players Dontrell Johnson and Vance Cuff — played both offense and defense last year and took repetitions on both sides of the line of scrimmage this spring.

Mililani,
Could you please point out where I said the kid wasn't a player? Truth is that 11.2 isn't very impressive. The 4.35 is though. I'm not sure how you go from a 11.2 FAT 100m to a 4.35 40 though.

The 4.35 40 is hand-timed and thus very likely inflated, so I'm guessing the reason he ran a 11.2 FAT 100m and a 4.35 40 is the 4.35 isn't kosher. Regardless, we all should know by now that track speed and field speed are two different things, so expressing concerns over a 11.2 FAT 100m implies the kid isn't really that fast. And when a person's only comment in a post is about a kid's perceived lack of speed, it suggests you may be having doubts about the kid's worth, whether that was your intent or not.

Bottom line, I wouldn't worry about the 11.2 FAT...if the staff wants Vance, that's all we should be focused on.

Actually, that works out about right. There's usually considered to be ~0.25 second difference between hand-timed and FAT, which would peg to a 10.95 hand times 100m, or a 4.5 FAT 40yd. A 4.5 forty yd. reasonably matches an 11.2 hundred meter, just as a 4.35 forty yd. reasonably matches a 10.95 hundred meter.

And considering Saine is one of the fastest kids in the country and ran in the 10.6 range most of the year, a 10.95 isn't half bad.

I wonder if the staff didn't try and keep this offer under wraps for a while. Next thing you know this kid has verbal offers from Illinois and Auburn.

He grew up a big Florida fan, so i wonder if an offer from them would change his mind about who is favorite is? There is a good story on him over at the Florida scout site on the front page.
