'07 OH CB/RB Brian Gamble (Illinois signee)

Rivals $

9/12/06

By Crabtree...Brian talks about the loss to Moeller. WVU and Illinois have been in touch. They are playing Chandler (AZ) Hamilton this weekend (home of ASU commits and 3-stars WR Kerry Taylor and LB Colin Parker).

Actually, there is an update on Scout right now that says Parker had season-ending knee surgery and won't be playing against the Tigers this weekend. That has to be good news for Gamble and the Washington running game.

GAMBLE GETS BIG TEN OFFER

Massillon running back and safety Brian Gamble said he received his first Big Ten offer last week from Illinois Head Coach Ron Zook. Gamble is exactly the kind of player Zook is rebuilding the Illini program with. If not for classroom issues when Gamble was a freshman, he?d be a major Big Ten recruit.

?I?m taking a correspondence class right now to make up for that,? Gamble said. ?Right now, I?ve got offers from Illinois, Toledo, Akron, Ball State, Eastern Michigan and Ohio University.?

Didnt Ohio University beat illinois this year, just like about everyone else they played. Great pick up but I wonder why they are picking illinois versus some quality coaching in the MAC, especially Solich. Oh well must be something special I dont know about up there. LOL. Go Bucks

I think most recruits feel they will get more visibility and it is more prestigious to go to a lower end Big 10 team than any MAC school. Plus a lot of the MAC coaches seem to move on to a better job if they do well. Less likely they will be there the kid's entire four years.

Playing in the Big 10 gives Brian the opportunity to have his games seen on a regional, and perhaps, national basis. I doubt the same could be guaranteed at Ohio U. Illinois is down now, but have had years of success, possibly more in the future. It is play at a higher level, plain and simple, and no-one should fault him for taking the best available offer - as he sees it.
